I am excited to be giving a keynote at the eighth edition of Smart Digital Ports of the Future (#SDP2024) where The Acceleration Agency is a sponsor. Additionally we will be giving live demonstrations of OPTICS, the active digital twin we built for the Port of Corpus Christi. My talk is titled: "Why Video Games Make Digital Twins Better." Arguably the original digital twins were video games! Video games represent 75 years of optimizing user experience and iterating on realistic representations of interactive spaces. The lessons learned from that space and the technologies used there have no equivalent. User interface design, 3D rendering, client server architecture, data sharding, and more all contribute to make Digital Twins more intuitive, more scalable, more secure, and more performant. Gaming engines are becoming more and more prevalent in many industry segments such as aerospace, supply chain, logistics, with use cases across visualization, simulation and training. And of course now becoming more and more common in ports.  Additionally real world representations are easier to process than dashboards. As humans we evolved to process data that looks like the real world. With traditional tools as data increases, cognitive load increases and assessment slows. With video games (and by extension Digital Twins) as data increases, cognitive load decreases and assessment speeds up.

Today in Genval, Dragos Tudorache, Dan Nechita, and their team hosted an outstanding line up of speakers for the conference on Geopolitical Europe 2030. It covered a range of topics, including defense and AI. While the disruptive potential of AI was a prominent topic, the collective wisdom via Slido pointed to productivity and healthcare as the most promising benefits of AI.
