🔧 **Ensuring Integrity in the Voting Process** 🗳️ In the ever-evolving landscape of digital voting, maintaining transparency and integrity is paramount. Recently, Montana's electronic absentee voter system experienced a brief technical glitch, reported by a voter from the UK. The names of Democratic candidates, Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, were temporarily missing from the online ballot. This issue was confined to the Electronic Absentee System for UOCAVA voters. The swift response from Montana's election officials is commendable. The system was promptly taken offline for troubleshooting and successfully restored by the afternoon. Thanks to their proactive measures, only a few voters were potentially affected, and the issue was resolved without further impact. All certified candidates, including Harris and Walz, are confirmed to be present on Montana’s ballots. Kudos to the Montana Secretary of State’s Office for their dedication to protecting our democratic process. This incident highlights the importance of vigilance and readiness in overcoming the technological challenges of modern voting. Share your thoughts on how digital systems can further support transparent and secure elections. 👇 #VotingIntegrity #Election2024 #DemocracyInAction #DigitalVoting #UOCAVA #ElectionSecurity

Celebrate #DisabilityVotingRightsWeek, September 9-13, by checking out the available voting resources from the National Federation of the Blind. Here is the link: https://lnkd.in/eFdwUCTR Among the resources are videos that demonstrate how to mark a ballot with four of the most commonly used ballot marking devices, or BMDs. NFB surveys of blind and low-vision voters following elections since 2008 found as many as one-third of all poll workers do not know how to operate BMDs, and that some blind and low-vision voters are also not familiar with their accessibility features. The result is that too many blind and low-vision voters end up voting with assistance rather than privately and independently using the BMD. Now is the time to study up!

Burlington County Unveils New Voting Machines in Advance of June 4 Primary Election Burlington County voters will cast ballots safely and securely with a new fleet of voting machines that will be deployed during the upcoming New Jersey Primary Election on June 4. The Burlington County Commissioners, Burlington County Superintendent of Elections and Burlington County Board of Elections announced the acquisition of the new fleet, describing the improved technology as simple to use, secure and more reliable than the county’s old fleet of switch-based machines used by voters for the previous 25 years. The new machines – consisting of electronic ballot marking devices and tabulators -- are the same as ones acquired by Burlington County in 2021 for early voting. The upcoming June 4 primary will be the first time the new machines will be used at all polling locations on Election Day. “Now is the right time for Burlington County to make the change and expand the use of new voting machines to all polling locations,” said Burlington County Superintendent of Elections Dawn Marie Addiego. “The new machines have been extensively vetted and are certified by both the federal government and the State of New Jersey, plus thousands of Burlington County voters have already used them during the early voting periods the last three years. The equipment is highly secure, easy to use, and they produce a voter verifiable paper record of every ballot, so there’s an additional level of security that was absent from our older fleet.” The Superintendent of Elections Office is the custodian of the machines. A total of 513 ballot markers and 239 machine tabulators were acquired by the County and are ready to be deployed to all polling locations on Election Day. Those machines are in addition to the devices the County purchased previously and deployed for early voting. The County’s purchase was approved by the Burlington County Commissioners at the request of the Superintendent of Elections and was supported by the bipartisan Burlington County Board of Elections. “2024 is expected to be a high-turnout election year, so we are grateful to have new and reliable equipment in place with the added security of a voter-verifiable paper trail,” said Burlington County Board of Elections Chairman Joseph Dugan. “The technology may be different, but what’s most important is voters will be casting their ballots safely, securely and with the knowledge their choices will be properly counted.” Learn more at https://lnkd.in/eSARzxpA

All Politics Is Local, But Some Politics Are More Local Than Others. The Allegheny County Board of Elections on Monday approved 10 ballot-return sites and five satellite voting centers for November’s election. "The five satellite voting centers will be open only on select days leading up to the election. At those locations, voters can register to vote, apply for a mail-in ballot, fill it out and turn it in." “You can do everything all in one stop,” Jessica Garofolo, Administrative Services. https://lnkd.in/ecZHveFX Oddly Enough Despite fewer registered voters, Allegheny County [pop 1,250,578] out-voted Philadelphia County [pop 1,567,258] in the 2022 mid-terms by 67,000 votes. CBS News. This despite the fact that according to Democratic strategist J.J. Balaban of Philadelphia "Because while Allegheny County's influence has increased, what you have seen is a massive re-registration of Democrats changing to Republicans in the collar counties around Allegheny." Hmmm None of this prepositioning of assets will matter and the election will be counterfeit unless we can assure the electorate that only US citizens can vote. Voter ID or election chaos, our politicians must decide.

*SUNDAY MORNING CO ELECTIONS RECAP* It's not just the leaked passwords Colorado. *Remote access to our voting system exists in 12 or more counties, @JenaGriswold lied about that for years. *Signature verification issues in Mesa County caused 12 fraudulent ballots to be accepted, 3 of which made it into the system as votes and can’t be undone. *400+ Drop boxes across Colorado are not secure: Video cameras are low quality and don’t meet specification requirements, they are often pointed in the wrong direction and the footage is not monitored or reviewed. *30,000 undeliverable ballots were unaccounted for in 2022: In 9 counties, the invoice records are significantly different than the official undeliverable count with over 18,000 undeliverable ballots have no matching USPS invoice record and in 3 counties, over 12,000 undeliverable ballots were invoiced but the county has no record of receiving them. *@COSecofState wants to keep dead voters on the rolls: When the Public Interest Legal Foundation asked to see ERIC’s reports of dead people possibly voting in Colorado, Griswold refused to release them. Friday, November 1 was the deadline - they gave them to @PILFoundation but won't give them to anyone else. *Multiple Colorado counties experienced issues with ballots not scanning so they can't use the scanners. *Voters are registered in multiple states: 18% of active voters on Colorado’s voters roll with mail addresses in Kansas were also registered to vote in Kansas. 22% active of active voters on Colorado’s voters roll with mail addresses in NewMexico were also registered to vote in New Mexico. *United Sovereign Americans (USA) claims to have discovered 100,693 improperly counted votes fromColorado’s 2022 election and have filed a lawsuit. And to top it off, we learned that election officials “audit” themselves. @JenaGriswold but a kabash on audits last year. #copolitics #coleg #ElectionIntegrity https://lnkd.in/gS-YkQYw

Using technology in an election isn't a replacement for transparency—it's a tool to enhance it, making sure elections are both efficient and secure. In a recent Marketplace interview with Meghan McCarty Carino, Verified Voting Foundation President and CEO Pamela Smith shares why hand-counting ballots on election night has steadily declined across the country, despite recent efforts to bring it back, including the new rule in Georgia requiring the number of ballots to be hand-counted on election night: "You get a rapid election night count if you're using voting technology that counts ballots automatically. And it's important that you can use hand counts to supplement that and get the best of both worlds by checking to make sure the machines did it right. And that's a hand count audit, or perhaps in some cases, a hand count recount, and that is really kind of the best way to do it." 🔗 to the full post below! https://lnkd.in/eJBqsnmF

When we recounted my city council election, I got to see the entire Ada County voting process up close. Trent and Saul's team were extremely competent and professional. As an expert in automation and decision systems, I was quite satisfied. There remained one worrisome weak point for me, however, which is that voters get no feedback on how their vote is recorded by the machine. If there's an under vote or over vote, the machine in the polling place will kick the ballot back and the voter has an opportunity to fix it. But if the vote were simply counted wrong, there is no ability to fix it. In practice, and after seeing the hand count of a fraction of ballots in my race, it's clear that miscounts, if any, must be a small number. Less than the 15 votes separating my race... but perhaps more than the 2 votes in Alexis Pickering's larger ACHD election. This new database showing photos of all the ballots should allay that concern, because we can all see the way each ballot was counted alongside the image of the paper original. If you were to write a unique identifier, like the serial number from a dollar bill in your pocket on your ballot - making sure not to intersect the bar code or any of the boxes you haven't filled in - you could even go back to your precinct and verify your own ballot after the election. The team told me about this system during my recount and it is awesome to see it in place. Combined with the existing tools like live streams of cameras in all parts of the counting rooms, Ada County now has the most radically transparent voting system in the country.

With Election Day fast approaching, voters across California are asking if it’s okay to take a photo with their ballots at the polls. California law, as outlined by Elections Code section 14291, allows voters to take “ballot selfies” and even share them on social media, as long as this doesn’t disrupt others or compromise anyone’s privacy. Robbie Anderson, elections counsel to the California Secretary of State, explained in a recent memo that officials need to ensure these photos don’t interfere with the voting process, aren’t intimidating, and don’t expose other voters’ choices. However, there are restrictions. Voters cannot use photos to intimidate others, solicit votes, or interfere with election duties. Privacy is paramount in California’s voting process, which seeks to maintain an environment free from intimidation or coercion. This is part of a broader trend across the U.S., where 25 states allow ballot selfies, including Oregon, Idaho, and Washington. On the flip side, 16 states, including Alaska and Nevada, prohibit ballot photos entirely, with several others allowing them only for mail-in or absentee ballots. As California voters hit the polls, they can confidently capture their voting moments, knowing they’re within their rights — just remember to be considerate and respect others' privacy. Secure Automatic Voter Registration (Secure AVR) would make our elections more secure *and* more accessible by assuring that every eligible Hoosier is automatically registered with accurate information! It's a win for election security. A win for rural voters and others who may face barriers. It eliminates confusion and intrusive questions at the polls or at registration sites. And since Indiana has some of the lowest voter registration rates in the country - it's needed! Would you sign our petition asking lawmakers to consider providing Secure AVR for all Hoosiers? It's a commonsense solution.
