Coastal aids to navigation (AtoN) encompass a variety of tools and technologies designed to guide mariners safely through coastal waters, including lighthouses, buoys and radar systems. These AtoN are crucial for mitigating the risks associated with navigating the UK's busy and often treacherous seas. 🚁Helicopter Rescue of 135 Crew Members from Stranded Barge TOG MOR in Mexico On September 8, 2024, a dramatic helicopter rescue took place in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, as 135 crew members were airlifted to safety from the barge Tog Mor. The vessel had run aground near Villa Allende due to intense winds and high waves caused by the interaction of a cold front and tropical storm in the southern Veracruz region. The Tog Mor, a flat-bottomed barge, was in the process of laying pipeline for the Puerta al Sureste gas pipeline, which will transport gas from Texas, USA, through Veracruz to Tabasco, Mexico. As the storm intensified, the vessel became stranded just 1,200 meters from shore while attempting to reach the Coatzacoalcos port for safety. Despite attempts to tow the barge with tugboats, the harsh conditions prevented success. Finally, helicopters from Transportes Aéreos Pegaso, hired by TC Energy, successfully evacuated the crew.
