As the world transitions to a net-zero future, the demand for critical minerals is soaring. These minerals are essential for clean energy technologies, electric vehicles, batteries, and other low-carbon innovations. But where will they come from? And who will supply them in a responsible and sustainable way? I believe that Canada and British Columbia has the answer. Our province is home to several critical minerals mines that could generate enormous economic and environmental benefits for Canada and the world. These projects are backed by a mining industry that has been a leader in environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices for decades. Canada has the technical expertise, the community support, and the government policies to make these projects a reality. We need to step out and show the world what we can offer. That's why I'm inviting you to join me and our team of experts Monica Banting, Mark Patterson, Sarah Marsh, Brooke Ko, CPA, CA and the whole mining team at PwC Canada, in a conversation about the BC mining industry and its role in the global critical minerals market. Let's talk about the opportunities and the obstacles, the solutions and the strategies, the vision and the values that will shape our industry for the future, so I invite you to read our BC Mine 2023 report and share with us your impressions, your comments and your ideas. Look forward hearing from your and working together to continue developing the best Mining Industry for Canada and for the world! #MininginCanada #PwCProud #Mining #ESG https://lnkd.in/gEcPYX_b

Mining is as Canadian as maple syrup. Its also one of the few ways Canada punches well above its weight. And somehow, we’re not doing nearly enough to protect or promote it. With the confluence of the green energy transition and the critical minerals race, the world’s at a crossroads, and Canada’s at the center. We have the incredible opportunity to contribute significantly to both a lower carbon future and international security but are continually getting in our own way. As John Turner, Krisztian Toth and I write in The Globe and Mail, a clearer and more coordinated mining strategy from government is needed, and quick. The wider country outside of downtown Toronto and Vancouver also needs to appreciate what’s at stake. Canada is a perennial mining superpower. Not just in what we extract, but in our capital markets and all the expertise – financial, legal, consulting, technical and environmental – that go with them. Overall, much of global mining runs one way or another through Canada. Many benefits, economic and otherwise, flow from this. But they’re being taken for granted, and risk slipping away. Positive steps were made in April’s federal budget. But words must now become action, and much more is still needed. The start is policy that properly prioritizes and champions Canadian mining. Aggressively supporting the industry should also transcend party lines and not require the outlay of political capital. Our collective motivation should be obvious: the clean energy transition, our national prosperity, our international influence, and global security all hang in the balance. https://bit.ly/3ztWvwl #mining #capitalmarkets #TSV #TSXV

Enjoyed delving into the Minerals Council of Australia's latest publication, 'Minerals+ An investment strategy for a resource-intensive future'. I recommend anyone interested in Australia's mining economy to give it a read [here](https://lnkd.in/gBXfyVqz). Key takeaways: - Mining capital stock stagnant for 7 years due to challenging business environment for Final Investment Decisions (FIDs). - FID conversion rates low at 1 in 20 major projects annually. - 80% of listed 'Major Projects' abandoned. - 1 in 5 projects closed, withdrawn, or lapsed between 2008 and 2024. - Committed projects declined by 70% from $255 billion in 2013 to $75 billion in 2023. Having met with The Hon. Peter Dutton MP at Mrs. Gina Rinehart's National Mining Day and this year's Diggers & Dealers Mining Forum 'Recommendation 9' of this publication was a strong theme - a 'single front door' for investors within the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet to streamline approval processes and provide specialised support to fast-track mining and large private infrastructure projects that benefit the wealth of our nation. Australia's pivotal role in the global clean energy transition demands continual policy enhancements for competitive tax settings, expanded trade, and productive workplace arrangements. #PolicyImprovement 🌏💼

Honoured to have had the opportunity to meet #BritishColumbia’s newly appointed Minister of #Mining and #CriticalMinerals, The Honourable Jagrup Brar, at the Mining Suppliers Association of B.C. (MSABC) Christmas Reception yesterday. I appreciated the opportunity to engage in a meaningful conversation and hear his speech outlining his vision for BC's mining sector. I am particularly encouraged by the BC government's decision to appoint its first-ever Minister dedicated solely to Mining and Critical Minerals. It underscores the province’s recognition of the vital role the mining industry plays in driving economic growth and the clean energy transition. With the #CaribooGoldProject securing its Mines Act permit just days after Minister Brar’s appointment, it is evident that BC's mining sector is in capable hands, poised for continued success and growth. Did you know 16 of the 31 critical minerals identified in the #CanadianCriticalMineralsStrategy are found in BC? We are also Canada’s largest producer of #copper and the only producer of #molybdenum - both of which are essential for #cleantechnologies. Critical minerals are the backbone of the #cleanenergytransition, and with 17 critical mineral projects on the horizon, BC is poised to play a leading role in supporting this transition. But we must act swiftly. The #greentransition cannot happen without mining, and we are already behind in meeting global demand for critical minerals. We must accelerate the responsible development of #mining projects to ensure a cleaner, more sustainable world for future generations. As part of the team at PRA Communications, I am proud to work with and support mining companies that are not only advancing and operating responsible mining projects in BC and worldwide but also driving economic growth and contributing to the global push for a sustainable and low-carbon future. The time to act is now! Let’s lead the way. #Responsiblemining #MininginBC #Mining #SustainableDevelopment #ResponsibleMining #GreenTransition #FutureOfMining #GreenEnergy #CleanTech #BCMining

The US needs a clear climate-focused mining strategy. Hard to argue. Does today's election impact #mining for the States? There are so many impacts in general where is very clear, but for mining in particular: 🏹 a Harris victory means a faster much more focused #energytransition - this goes directly to value, given that a faster path to #netzero increases demand for #criticalminerals, value for miners 🏹 a Harris victory increases long-term focus on #responsiblemining, with strategies to grow footprints in and beyond the US borders. Geopolitical rivalries with China are clear, getting growth 'right' will deliver #energysecurity and #financialsecurity over time given the reality that the energy transition, #AI/tech and growing populations are all increasing demand for key minerals. A disciplined focus on responsible mining increases value for the mining industry as a whole, while also supporting geopolitical advantage given that responsible practices improve reputations in ways that are good for business The bottom line is that crisp clear integrated strategies are needed quickly. From an artisanal mining perspective, does the US election matter? Although it seems a world apart, the answer is yes. 🏹 the pace of the energy transition as well as the focus on responsible practices both impact opportunities and realities for some of the poorest of the poor. A #justtransition, which aligns much more with what Harris will deliver, includes improving lives for artisanal miners while de-risking downstream value chain implications of supply At #cop16 a few days ago, The Blended Capital Group, Capitals Hub Canada and Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) issued a press release sharing our commitment to collaborate on developing and delivering a digital marketplace that opens the door for at-scale capital that supports at-scale formalization in artisanal mining. This platform will deliver meaningful social, economic, ecological and financial value as different categories of investors are leveraged in capital stacks that make sense. The US election doesn't change the underlying logic of this platform in any way, but it provides context on what the mining industry might look like over the long haul. Value implications are clear. https://lnkd.in/gMHjUgYM #mininginvestment #impactinvestment #sdgs #esg https://lnkd.in/gp5svVck
