The 17th Australian Space Forum in Adelaide witnessed significant engagement from the Indian space sector, IN-SPACe spearheaded a delegation led by Dr. Vinod Kumar, FIE, FIETE Director of the Promotion Directorate at IN-SPACe. The delegation included Mr. Shashank Saxena, Deputy Director of IN-SPACe, and representatives from prominent Indian space startups: AgniKul Cosmos PierSight Space , TakeMe2Space , Dhruva Space , Bellatrix Aerospace , XDLINX Labs, mistEO , OrbitAID Aerospace , and Skyroot Aerospace . The forum served as a crucial platform for these Indian startups to showcase their advanced capabilities and explore collaborative opportunities with Australian counterparts. This resulted in the signing of two momentous Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) that signal a promising future for Indo-Australian space cooperation. The first MoU was established between HEX20, an Australian satellite platform company, and OrbitAid, an Indian company specializing in developing cutting-edge satellite life extension solutions. The second MoU was signed between HEX20 and TakeMe2Space, an Indian startup pioneering AI-driven compute and storage satellite infrastructure. It is notable that six more MoUs/ LOI are also signed during the event. These strategic partnerships signify a significant step establishing collaboration between the Indian and Australian space sectors. In 2020, Dragonfly Aerospace launched with a clear mission: to provide decision-makers with precise, easily accessible data. As Bryan Dean, Group CEO and Co-Founder, puts it: “Our goal is to use this technology to improve lives on Earth.” The company specialises in compact, high-performance imaging payloads (the part of the satellite responsible for collecting data or transmitting information), creating expansive imaging networks that offer constant views of Earth in various spectrums. This data provides critical business insights and helps improve lives globally. Based in Stellenbosch, Dragonfly Aerospace also contributes to space exploration, supporting NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration missions and lunar projects. Despite challenges, such as the lack of government-funded space initiatives, Dean believes South African space companies' resilience sets them apart. “The industry would definitely grow more with government projects and grants, which we have received practically zero of for a long time,” Dean notes. “But our resilience is our strength. Without government safety nets, we must be agile and competitive globally.” This agility, Dean adds, distinguishes South African space companies. “We fight hard for every bit of revenue,” he explains. “It has made us tough and agile. We might be one of the only truly commercial space industries in the world because we have no government support. 🚀 Major Milestone for European Space Tech! 🚀 I'm excited to share that The Exploration Company (TEC) has raised $160 million in a record-breaking Series B funding round! 🎉 Co-led by Balderton Capital and Plural, this investment is set to accelerate TEC's pioneering work in space technology, reinforcing Europe's leadership in this critical industry. Founded in 2021 by former Airbus executive Hélène Huby, TEC is making waves with its innovative spacecraft, Nyx. Designed to be reusable and refillable, Nyx addresses the growing demands of space stations and exploration missions by making transportation more affordable and sustainable. With this new funding, TEC will expand its team to over 200 members and enhance its manufacturing capabilities, including additive manufacturing in collaboration with TRUMPF and LEAP71. What stands out to me is TEC's commitment to European space sovereignty and collaboration. The company's recent contract with the European Space Agency (ESA) and its partnership with NASA highlight its role in global space innovation. Are you sometimes wondering what’s out there, in space? We don’t know for sure and yet, we stay curious, and that is why Swissnex in India is excited to launch the Indo-Swiss SpaceWeek this Sunday. Together with our partner ESA BIC Switzerland, we are bringing a seven-member Swiss delegation to Bengaluru and New Delhi between 23rd and 28th June to explore the Indian space ecosystem and strengthen spacetech collaboration. Why are we so excited about it? Because… … Switzerland is a space nation. Full stop. Whilst Switzerland does not have its own space program, it has significantly shaped space missions around the globe.  Swiss technology is everywhere in space: on Mars with the Europeans, the Americans or the Chinese; on the Moon with the Russians; part of satellites orbiting Jupiter; on comets or peering into the infinite. While only major missions like the CHEOPS space telescope, the comet hunter Rosetta or the solar observatory Solar Orbiter have been widely covered in the media, many other missions also incorporate Swiss technology. During the Indo-Swiss SpaceWeek, the delegation will interact with the Indian space industry from the public and private sectors and find ways to strengthen the ties between the two innovative countries.
