Manaal Faruqui’s Post

After a long ~8 years at Google as my first and only job ever out of grad school, I have decided it's time to move on and explore new opportunities. I have learnt so much at Google from so many smart and amazing colleagues, but I want to push myself out of my comfort zone, and see what I am able to do outside. I built a very strong team of engineers and research scientists from scratch, and trained engineers with no ML background to be experts in ML. I am going to miss my team the most of everything (well everything except the smoothie bar) I'm leaving behind at Google. I am thankful to all my mentors at Google, and I would love to work again with them in a heartbeat. As for what's coming, my next employer wanted me to start working for them like yesterday but I have convinced them to give me a 2 month break which I am going to throughly enjoy while spending time in India with family and friends and take a few trips. So, I'll talk about this more in January!

All the best, Manaal! A huge thank you for everything you've done for the team and also for me personally. Thinking back on the last couple of years, your mentorship and guidance have played a pivotal role in some major decisions I took in my life. Thanks for always giving me unfiltered professional advice (and life advice), I've not found many people who were able to do that so effectively. We'll miss you!

I’m going to miss having you around the office. Everyone in our team will miss you so much. And also, lets keep discussing tv shows and what to watch next :)

An end of an era. Thank you for being such a great mentor Manaal. I suspect your new employer's core model quality will get surprisingly way better after you join. Let me know if I can help you get your custom Tudor watch! Enjoy your well deserved break!
