⛑️Clara Barton's Inspiration and its Connection to Industrial Safety⛑️ Clara Barton, a key figure in the history of the Red Cross, founded the American Red Cross in 1881, inspired by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). During the American Civil War, Barton dedicated herself to caring for wounded soldiers, establishing a legacy of compassion and efficiency in emergency response. 🔴The connection between the Red Cross and industrial safety is clear: both focus on protection and assistance during emergencies and disasters. In industrial safety, we apply these principles in preparing and responding to emergencies in the workplace, including first aid, evacuations, and crisis management.🔴 The Red Cross inspires us to implement safety practices that prevent accidents and mitigate damage, ensuring the well-being and protection of people. In our company, we strive to follow this model, ensuring a safe and prepared work environment for any eventuality. #IndustrialSafety #RedCross #Emergencies #WorkplaceProtection #SafetyFirst #IndustrialSafety #WorkplaceSafety #Contractor #ContractorSafety #ArizonaContractors #TritecSafety #SafetyAlways #AutomativeIndustry

Everything that makes Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service a brilliant place to work! The dedication, commitment and professionalism is second to none
Three generations of a family who have served Seascale Fire Station for over 45 years have attributed their longevity to camaraderie and community spirit. George Steele became the family’s third generation of On-Call Firefighters when he joined the crew in July this year, following in the footsteps of father Terry, who joined in 1991 and continues to serve, and grandfather Chris, who was part of the team from 1978 to 2002. To read the Steele family's story - and for more information about becoming a Firefighter at Seascale or one of our On-Call stations around the county - visit: https://lnkd.in/evjpDGdg

FROM FIREFIGHTER TO SPEAKER – EMPOWER YOUR TEAM WITH STRATEGIES LEARNED FROM BATTLING BUSHFIRES. I am thrilled to announce that I have joined the line-up of incredible speakers represented by @IESSB – the International Emergency Services Speakers Bureau ! https://iessb.com.au This is an exciting move that allows me to enlighten, educate, and empower new audiences to find growth opportunities & success amid the challenges of organizational transition & change. The IESSB stands out with all its speakers coming from the military, fire services, first responders, emergency ambulance services, lifeguards, or the medical profession. Many have led or are leading large national or state-based emergency service organizations. How do I qualify? Through my 11 years as a volunteer firefighter in Adelaide and my 3 years in the Army Reserves, where I won a cup as unit marksman and trained as a sniper within the Reconnaissance & Surveillance Platoon. Book ANY of the IESSB speakers for fresh perspectives on organisational issues, problems, or pressure points within your organization. They are all amazing speakers. But book ME to hear lessons from that fateful Ash Wednesday in February 1983, when hot northerly winds filled the Adelaide sky with topsoil blown from tinder dry paddocks, clouding the sun; the first of 3 days in which over 100 bushfires ravaged South Australia and Victoria, destroying the bush, property and lives as they burned out of control. Book me to discover what I learned about breath, follow-through, taking the shot, and discipline when I trained with the 1980 Australian Olympic shooting team just before they left to compete in the Moscow Games. And book me too for a laugh about how I got a bayonet wound (it’s true!) ! But what’s most important about each story is the nugget it contains – fresh insights, new perspectives, emotional shifts, and reframes that can bring a new way to look at life. Stories that are metaphors to create emotional connection, shift perspectives, challenge beliefs, and open doors to new possibilities, enabling us to see the world in new and empowering ways, ways that we never would have dreamed of by ourselves. That’s why we have speakers, right? Because it just takes one idea, just one ah-ha moment, & life will never be the same again. So for your next event or conference, take a look at IESSB https://iessb.com.au You’ll find me there ! I genuinely wonder exactly how much organizational learning is generated from such meetings. I have been fortunate enough to work closely and extensively with Australian fire and rescue services over the last decade or so, and also with their incredible State Emergency Services. Queensland is 7-8 times larger than the UK and they have a single emergency response agency. England alone has 44 fire and rescue services and 11 ambulance services. Wouldn’t mergers of UK fire and rescue services make for a leaner, more efficient and effective front line response? Would it reduce budgets and the need for investment in (for example) 44 brand brand new, state of the art training centres? Would it more easily promote best practices and the development of true subject matter expertise? Perhaps more critically, would it help with the current challenges the sector faces? I do hope the UKFRs can genuinely learn from other parts of the world. https://lnkd.in/e3zzbwgR
This week London Fire Commissioner Andy Roe and Deputy Commissioner Charlie Pugsley had the pleasure of meeting with Michelle Cowling, Deputy Commissioner of Operations for Fire Rescue Victoria, Australia. Michelle previously worked for 25 years in Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, where she was one of the first woman urban firefighters in Queensland. The visit was a fantastic chance to learn from each other, and discuss the new equipment and methods that our services are using. We also took the opportunity to talk about diversity and culture in fire and rescue services, and emerging risks like electrical vehicles and our ChargeSafe campaign. Thank you to Michelle for joining us.

The Wildland Firefighter Exodus and New Mexico's Biggest-Ever Wildfire With wildfires becoming more intense and fire season lasting longer, the need for experienced wildland firefighters is greater than ever. However, a recent investigation found that the Forest Service is struggling to retain these vital workers, with a 45% attrition rate in the past three years. The job's dangers, low wages starting at $15 per hour, and health risks have contributed to this exodus. We must support our firefighters and ensure they have the resources and support they need to continue their crucial work." A ProPublica investigation co-published with Outside Magazine found that the Forest Service is failing to retain experienced firefighters, suffering an attrition rate of 45% among its permanent employees in the past three years. Poor compensation (wages start at $15 per hour), cancer risk and mental health issues have all contributed to this exodus. #WildlandFirefighters #SupportOurHeroes #FightTheFire https://lnkd.in/ekBWpvZu

🚨🚒 Honoring Our Heroes: National First Responders Day 🚑🚔 Today, we join the nation in celebrating National First Responders Day – a day set aside on October 28th to honor the brave individuals who answer the call in emergencies, often putting their lives on the line to protect our communities. Whether rushing into burning buildings, providing life-saving medical care, or securing our neighborhoods, their courage, dedication, and service inspire us every day. At BELFOR Property Restoration and 1-800-BOARDUP International of Philadelphia, we understand firsthand how crucial their work is. In times of disaster, their heroism ensures that together we emerge stronger. It’s their commitment that allows us to do what we do best – help communities rebuild, restore, and recover. Firefighters are true heroes, courageously risking their lives daily to protect our communities while often leaving their families behind. Over the past 25 years, thousands of firefighters globally have made the ultimate sacrifice. In the United States, 89 fatalities were reported in 2023 alone, with a peak of 443 in 2001 due to 9/11. In the UK, at least 122 firefighters have died on duty since 1978, with firefighting recognized as one of the most dangerous professions. In Europe, 89 firefighter fatalities occurred in 2020 across 33 countries, while the MENA region grapples with increasing wildfire risks exacerbated by climate change. Occupational hazards such as heat stress, sudden cardiac events, and long-term exposure to toxic substances contribute significantly to firefighter injuries and fatalities. In Middle Eastern Asia, sudden cardiac events are a leading cause of death among firefighters due to overexertion and stress. These brave individuals face immense challenges without expecting anything in return but our prayers and gratitude for their unwavering dedication and commitment to public safety.

As a deputy #fire chief I had to constantly balance available time, money and resources to ensure that our special operations teams were properly trained and prepared for low frequency, high impact missions. It wasn't always easy to see or justify the importance of those investments. After #HurricaneHelene, the picture is much clearer now. I'm very proud of these people, many of whom I got to witness develop as young #firefighters into the leaders they are today. https://lnkd.in/ecgBJeFD #waterrescue #technicalrescue
