Meet Robert! What attracted you to a career in accounting? I was initially attracted to a career in accounting because I liked math and problem solving and knew I wanted to work with numbers. What was your background before joining Benson Accountants? I started as an apprentice in September 2002 and progressed to Account Training Manager with local firms. I’ve always loved working in practice, helping new trainees, and guiding their careers. What advice would you give to someone considering a career in accounting? The best advice would be to go for it, it’s a wonderful career that provides variety and opportunities to progress in so many different directions. What are your career goals within accounting? My career goals are to continue developing staff, as that gives me a huge amount of job satisfaction. What do you do outside of work? 🙌 As a Recruiter, this article is music to my ears - with the talent pool in Accounting being so short, I speak with clients on a daily basis that are crying out for extra resources with the work coming through thick and fast! It would be interesting to get a read on the response to this, I feel personally that making career pathways in Accounting more readily available to people at a lower cost should see an increase in talent over the years to come and ease the pressure on Accounting firms, but on the other hand, could this new introduction cut corners? Do you think that the Bachelors degree is essential for equipping Grads with the tools to hit the ground running in an Accounting role.
