Accessibility is a business case that every company should consider. Our team led by Esther Eilker, Noémie Sei, Johannes Ismair, Richard Gross and Dominik Birkmeier made this clear at the IT Days in Frankfurt. Because: “We're all just temporarily abled.” - said UX Designer Cindy Li. Our colleague Sarah Trommler was on site. Here is her report: “The facts speak for themselves: • 1.85 billion people worldwide are directly affected - and if we consider not only people with disabilities, but also their friends and families: they influence 73% of purchasing decisions. • In Europe, the disposable income of people with disabilities is over 500 billion dollars, and with dependents we rise to 3.57 trillion dollars. • 40% of people experience a disability in the course of their lives. Accessibility ends up helping 100% of us. Why act? • Market advantage: Accessibility is not a niche issue, but a global competitive advantage. • Credibility & image: Companies that think accessibly demonstrate genuine inclusion and gain trust. • Legal requirements: With WCAG, EU Accessibility Act and BFSG, there are clear standards and requirements - ignoring them will be expensive. Quick wins for the start: 1. Define accessibility: clarify what you want to achieve at the beginning - start with a minimum that includes everyone. 2. Understand your target group: Create inclusive personas - what limitations and technologies do they use? 3. Think about assistive technologies: tools such as screen readers, contrast modes, zoom functions or adaptive switches. 4. Know the standards: WCAG, BITV, EN 301 549 - internationally and locally there are clear guidelines for accessibility.” Thank you for your commitment at the IT Days for more accessibility, for sustainable success, for all people and for a better future.
A reminder that accessibility is not just about compliance or business; it’s about creating a world where everyone feels included. Great to see this team pushing for real change!
