How can energy system modelling help people make better decisions? Technical expert Fei Wu shares some insightful examples. Fei: "Modelling-based advisory is necessary in navigating the energy transition. At the Delft University of Technology and ETH Zürich, I have contributed to a sector-coupled energy system optimisation model called Euro-Calliope. This model represents pan-European demand, supply, storage & transmission technologies in all sectors (industry, transport, heat, residential, power). Covering any spatial and temporal resolution too. It's very extensive." More details? “All models are bad (read: imperfect) but some are very useful.” Why? Because it’s simply impossible to think through all the connections in a complex energy system and make sense of the data forest otherwise. Here just a few examples of how models we work with and develop can drive strategic decision making. Stay tuned for more in the new year 😉 #energy #energymodel #optimization #sectorcoupling #decisionmaking #strategy

Thanks SUSI Partners and Clean Horizon for an excellent report on long-duration energy storage that I found incredibly insightful. It delves into the advancements and potential of LDES technologies and income models. I highly recommend giving it a read if you're interested in the future of energy!
New SUSI Insights Publication: 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐠-𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 Professional investors can request a copy of the full report here: https://lnkd.in/diggXJYS At SUSI Partners, we take a holistic view of the energy transition theme and continuously track developments in emerging sectors to assess their investment potential and how new technologies may create obsolescence risks elsewhere. Today, long-duration energy storage solutions, i.e. storage solutions with discharge durations of eight hours and above are not yet widely commercially viable, but increasing power price volatility in selected markets and potential for cost reductions already point to nascent LDES solutions becoming a complementary part of future energy systems. While there is an increasing body of literature that details the technical specificities of various LDES solutions, our aim with this report is to bring an investor viewpoint to the sector and to inform professional investors on our ongoing monitoring of this emerging sector. Special thanks to the co-authors at Clean Horizon. Professional investors are also invited to attend our exclusive SUSI Insights webinar on the topic, taking place on Friday, 27 September, at 10.00-10.30am CET. Interested in attending? Please reach out to members of our Client Coverage team: Lucas van Berkestijn, Hans-Christian Wagner, and Ralf Kalt. #energystorage #energytransition #infrastructure

Friday Fact! One fascinating point about solar panels is that the #fundamental technology, called photovoltaics, was initially identified in 1839 by French physicist Alexandre-Edmond Becquerel. His observation that specific materials generate a small electric current when exposed to light laid the groundwork for the #development of modern solar panels, which have since emerged as a pivotal component in global #renewableenergy generation.
