𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆: A "Fire and Explosion Strategy" is a combination of measures taken to reduce the risk to personnel in the case of fire or explosion. Measures to be considered in formulating a Fire and Explosion Strategy for specific installations include: 🔹Escape routes should be clearly marked using high visibility signatures along their entire route. 🔹Escape route should be Well-lit and include a contingency for emergency lighting in case of power loss. 🔹Escape routes should be of a size that is adequate to accommodate all personnel. 🔹Where appropriate, the installation should be compartmentalized (have firewalls between compartments) 🔹Each area of the installation should have more than one escape route. 🔹Escape routes should be protected against the effects of fire and explosion 🔹At the design stage of a process system, the amount of flanged pipework should be minimized in order to reduce the potential for leaks. 🔹At the design stage, the inventory of hazardous substances should be reduced to a minimum. 🔹Emergency ShutDown ESD should be enclosed with a fireproof casing. 🔹Water deluge operating skids should be situated away from the area they are protecting. 🔹Access doors to accommodation areas should have automatic door closers fitted to prevent ingress of smoke and flames. 🔹All enclosures that house rotating equipment and electric drives should have Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus (VESDA) fitted. 🔹The accommodation and control rooms should be segregated and distanced away from production processes wherever possible. 🔹High Integrity Pipeline Protection Systems (HIPPS) should be fitted where appropriate. ... -𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘴𝘈𝘱𝘱 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘭: https://lnkd.in/eYDZp5_q -𝘛𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘭: https://lnkd.in/evPw2Y7W #staysafe #ProcessSafety #SafetyEngineering #RiskManagement #SafetyCulture #HSE #HazardAnalysis #LossPrevention #OperationalSafety #EHS #FireProtection #SafetyStandards #RiskAssessment #SafetyCompliance #SafetyManagement

Operating a fire extinguisher is as easy as PASS😁. Here’s how the P.A.S.S. technique works; • P- Pull the pin to unlock the extinguisher. • A- Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire. • S- Squeeze the handle to release the extinguishing agent. • S - Sweep the nozzle from side to side until the fire is out. Note: It is important to test the fire extinguisher before you aim. That’s it! With these simple steps, you can tackle any small fire inside like a pro. Stay safe, stay prepared. #firefighters #oilandgas #firefighting #safety #safetyfirst #hse #jci

What's your plan for arc flash safety? ⚡ Here are essential steps to keep everyone safe: 1️⃣ Conduct a Hazard Analysis: Identify potential arc flash hazards in your facility and assess the risks involved. This helps in creating a targeted safety strategy. 2️⃣ Label Equipment: Clearly label all equipment with appropriate arc flash warnings and safety instructions. This ensures that everyone is aware of potential dangers. 3️⃣ Use Proper PPE: Ensure all personnel wear the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when working near electrical systems. This significantly reduces the risk of injury. 4️⃣ Implement Safe Work Practices: Train your team on safe work practices and ensure they follow procedures that minimize arc flash risks. 5️⃣ Regular Maintenance and Inspections: Schedule regular maintenance and inspections of electrical equipment to catch and address potential issues before they become hazardous. Prioritize arc flash safety to protect your team and facility. Industrial facilities face unique fire risks due to the hazardous materials they handle, which often require more advanced protection than standard systems can provide. While common systems like fire sprinklers and smoke detectors are important, they are not sufficient for high-risk environments like refineries, distilleries, and chemical processing facilities. In these settings, specialized fire protection solutions—such as firewater storage tanks, explosion detection, gas and flame monitoring, and water spray systems—are essential to preventing catastrophic incidents. Additionally, passive fire protection, including fire-resistant coatings and impoundment basins, plays a vital role in minimizing damage. In our latest blog, Brandon Huffman, PE, VERTEX’s Vice President of Fire Protection Engineering, explores the critical need for tailored fire protection systems in industrial settings and explains how site-specific hazards must be addressed to ensure effective risk mitigation.
