Unprepared for a new normal? An explosive cocktail of factors, among others a shortage of firefighters and the lack of establishing safety zones and other preventive measures, is now raising a storm of criticism against the Nea Demokratia government. The criticism a mere repetition of the demands for government protection that has been brought up repeatedly - and with limited results- through the latest years of increasing devastation. Among the victims of the fires has been the generations-old industry of beekeeping, deeply integrated in the ecosystem now threatened or destroyed by climate change and the fires: https://lnkd.in/dnjAN9Ez In the words of the beekeeper Markus: "If the bees go extinct, that will be the end of the world." #greece #grækenland #fires #climate #austerity

https://lnkd.in/gffEeakE Climate change comes with cascading effects. In Western Canada and the US they have experienced long periods of drought over the past several years. It has led to massive fires that caused extreme damage, loss of life, destruction of wildlife and wildlife habitats, destruction of homes and property, further possibility of illness, etc. In western Canada over 100 wildfires remain active now - and they faced an unprecedented fire season last year. They are experiencing drought conditions right now, some severe, that will likely bring the start to an early spring fire season and the possibility of even more fires with more severe consequences. The infrastructure is not sufficient to fight these fires and the worsening weather conditions make them more difficult to fight. If we continue to face the consequences of climate change with a disaster recovery approach choosing not to mitigate or reduce the effects, it will continue to get worse and cost more not just in dollars but in lives. A healthy planet is profitable for everyone. #HPRT #wecaretorepair

💔 Our hearts go out to the community members and animals affected by the devastating wildfires in Jasper, AB, and across Western Canada. 🔥Sadly, wildfires are escalating worldwide due to the effects of climate change. Just today, the UN's Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, shared that 2.4 billion people are now at high risk from extreme heat, including life-threatening heatwaves and rising temperatures, which are contributing to increased wildfires. In fact, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday were the hottest recorded days on Earth. We must take collective action to help those most affected and invest in sustainable energy sources. 🔗 We encourage pet guardians to prepare for emergencies and evacuations. #Preparedness. I now understand the meaning and background of the Alliance for Global Water Adaptation (AGWA) #WaterTracker as a more comprehensive and effective tool towards adaptation and mitigation of disasters like this one that happened in 1900 in #Brazil

Unfortunately, the northern regions of the US and Canada are being struck by catastrophes, with wildfires affecting many areas. We hope that nobody gets hurt and that everyone is able to find shelter during these challenging times. Sometimes, we forget that climate change impacts both our planet and humanity. We should all work to combat it in order to prevent further victims and safeguard the future of our home. https://lnkd.in/gu-AGC8h #extreme #climate #climatechange #News #Canada #US #planet
