Why Passport Meditation...My love for travel started early—high school, actually—and over the years, it grew into something much bigger. After countless trips back and forth to Europe, I decided to dive all in, moving to Brussels and embracing expat life. Fast forward to now: I’ve explored over 150 cities in 20+ countries and built amazing relationships along the way. Travel has taught me so much about people, culture, and connection. It even inspired me to write a travel memoir, Big Time Journey of a Small Town Girl, and a cookbook blending healthy spins on traditional recipes with stories from my adventures. What stood out to me most was how food and shared experiences bring people together, creating space for conversation, understanding, and unforgettable memories. But as a corporate wellness instructor, I realized something deeper: not everyone can hop on a plane to decompress or gain perspective. That’s where visualization came in—a way to recreate the magic of travel without leaving your space. Research shows visualization can rewire the brain, reduce stress, and open up new ways of thinking. That’s how Passport Meditation was born. It combines the calming effects of mindfulness with sensory-rich "virtual travel" experiences. Whether you’re imagining the buzz of a street market or the quiet calm of a beach, it’s all about giving your mind a break and your spirit a boost. For me, this project is a way to share what I love about travel and help others find moments of peace, inspiration, and connection—no passport required. 🌍✨ #travelwellness #corporatewellness #wellnessatwork #stressmanagement Veronica Maddox Henry Miller, MS, BHS, BS Mindfulness Exercises

Three weeks ago, I went through a pretty revolutionary experience on an intensive residential retreat through The Hoffman Process Australia (if you’ve never heard of it - be sure to check it out). In short, it's an intense personal development program designed to help you identify and resolve negative behavioural patterns, emotional blockages, and deep-seated issues stemming from childhood experiences / family dynamics; integrating psychological, emotional, and spiritual techniques to foster self-awareness, emotional healing, and personal transformation. Luminaries like Dr’s Gabor Maté, Dr. Daniel Siegel and Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor are proponents for The Process - and now I can see why. To sum it up - this was deep, intense, life-changing work - and the experience was nothing short of mind-blowing! The Process also build experiential learning into everything I had learned through my time working in the world of yoga therapy and therapeutic yoga, meditation and the processing of my personal struggles. Last week, I was honoured to share my journey of breaking free from societal and personal constraints to live a life fuelled by passion and authenticity in an interview with feminine empowerment coach, Penny van der Sluys on her podcast, Turned On. In preparing for the podcast, I began reflecting on the long process I (continue to go through) of breaking free of constructs that I had believed to be true and rigid… and how through some of the skills I learned at the Hoffman Process that I’ve been able to give myself (& others) greater compassion. In the podcast, I talk about the meandering journey I’ve taken through life following my passions; from moving across continents, starting a Mexican restaurant, entering the world of wine… then wellbeing (& back to wine); before ultimately coming back my artistic roots. I'M ON A 7 DAY RETREAT (and yes it is a treat!). One of the greatest recollection of my life was finding myself at a Yoga Retreat in my early 20s attending a Yoga training, and here I am in my 50's and attending a Mindfulness Retreat. Why do people go on retreat? I know already, but I want to remind myself again-to abandon everything temporal, for a little while, my work, my cares, my troubles, the hurry of the world, in order to devote a few hours to thinking of not much. My days are spent in learning how to slow down the parts of myself I have neglected, overlooked, forgotten that these things are passing, and that the really important matter is the welfare of my soul. I want to confront myself now with the question of St. Francis Xavier: "What doth it profit a man to gain the whole world if he suffer the loss of his own soul?" I know that even writing this post means I distract myself from what I came here to experience but I also know that sharing one's experience in the moment can open up a glimpse for someone else to ask themselves Would a retreat benefit me? Well the most important part of anyone's life journey is to be in balance with oneself and the world around you so when one slows down their nervous system you become good to yourself by “resting and rejuvenating,” or you may set an intention to transform or gain information about a specific aspect of your life, like the way you approach your business to a more healthy work-home balance. So what happens at a Retreat? We discover that placing our attention in the aliveness of the present moment is a choice. The tools we use are conscious intention, meditation, nature immersion, ceremony, silence, mindful dialogue and loving community. My favourite part has been learning further about our Nervous System and the new studies coming out that are changing the paradigm of what it is to be 'rested'. We discover how to breathe in ways which better support our cells, organs and nervous system, and through breathing consciously. But the bigger reason why I choose to come here in all honesty is that this year I was prescribed high blood pressure tablets and I'm not even 60. This is my wake-up call to de-stress and realise that my health, productivity and longevity in life depend on my heart. And so here I am learning all the tools to help my heart rest today, tomorrow and the days to come. All of this is held in the safe container of sacred silence, which means letting go of chatting so that we can relax the masks we wear. Food tastes more delicious, the world looks more vivid, life comes more alive. So maybe after reading this you may wonder if you might want to consider going retreat if you have not done so already. You might think "That’s really interesting! It would be nice - maybe I’ll start smaller with a shorter retreat to see how I do. I know it would probably do me a lot of good!" And yes it would! It definitely would! 😀

Nature Walks With Earth Meditations - Dishoek to Zoutelande. Join me for a moderate 6.4 KM circular hike combined with a guided meditation on the beach. Watch here the video: https://lnkd.in/emh6wahN A typical Forest Bathing session does not have a goal or a point A - B in mind. Therefore this is not really a typical Forest Bathing session that follows all the rules. However, you do get all the benefits (and more) during the meditation, breaks, and hike. Surrounding yourself in the atmosphere of nature can do the following: Reduce stress, anxiety, or feelings of depression/burnout. Regulate emotional mood. Improve Mental health. Reflect on life, and gain new clarity on your goals, vision, purpose, or mission in life. Feel connected to nature and something greater than yourself. Become mindful, and be more present. Feel more grounded and connected within your physical body. Improve physical well-being and become fit. Improve your immune system. Socialize, network, and make new friends with like-minded people. A community of trust where you can share and grow together. Get in touch with your Spiritual Body and expand your consciousness. Receive spiritual healing during the meditation. PRACTICALITY: We meet at 13:45 at the parkingspot at the end of Strandweg. Copy paste this link to get Google Maps directions: https://lnkd.in/epfUUqkd. Easy to reach by bicycle or car. The walk takes us around 1.5 - 2 hours with a couple of breaks including a short 15-20 minute guided meditation. Things to think about: Proper hiking/walking shoes or boots. Waterproof Outdoor clothing. Water, snacks, and lunch. Make sure you are fit and healthy. Long-distance hiking is not recommended for those who have foot, knee, or leg injuries. Walking poles are a good option. Please keep in mind that you can keep up with the group. Please be on time as respect for the others and we would like to start at 14:00 exactly. COST: This is a donation-only event to keep the community running as I am officially not a qualified outdoor instructor. When you join us you accept that you are 100% responsible for your own safety and well-being. Riding 1100km in less than 24 hours on a motorcycle on local roads might seem unsafe, irresponsible, and a waste of fuel and money to some. However, before I continue about my latest achievement, I want to ask: Have you ever heard about mindfulness? Although there is no formal or scientific definition of it, one that I like is "paying attention to our experience in a non-judgmental, accepting way." Mindfulness helps us become more aware of our thoughts and feelings so that, instead of being overwhelmed by them, we're better able to manage them. Now, let's get back to riding a motorcycle. Did you know that it is a constant struggle with the road, traffic, weather, and basically everything that surrounds you? It may seem like a poor deal, only offering short moments of excitement that are sometimes called freedom. My answer is that you get much more from every minute on your motorcycle, mainly thanks to the struggle it offers. What you will learn as soon as you start riding is that you need to pay attention to avoid getting hurt! You need to predict the worst-case scenario before it even starts to happen. If something bad is happening, you should already be prepared for it and act accordingly with no room for panic. Doesn't this sound like the earlier quoted definition of mindfulness? What I get from riding a motorcycle is a deep dive into mindfulness training. Is it worth it? Sure it is! If you are interested in mindfulness and motorcycles, I can recommend Jarosław Gibas' books and podcasts. He seems to be far more qualified to talk about it. Let me mention again a few words about my latest achievement, which is the Iron Rider Challenge Ogrodzeniec 2024. The goal of this event was to promote motorcycle endurance in a safe way. There were 11 rounds of 100km each through local roads to be completed. There were some time constraints on when each lap could start and needed to be completed, which realistically offered at least 20-30 minutes of rest on each round. The route was demanding! In my experience as a long-distance traveler, it was much more demanding than covering over 1,500km in transit. I'm glad I finished this challenge, I'm glad I dared to do it, and I can't wait to hit the road once again! #Mindfulness #MotorcycleRiding #MentalHealth #MindfulLiving #MotorcycleLife #IronRiderChallenge #EnduranceRiding #PersonalGrowth #MindfulMotorcycling #SelfAwareness #StayPresent #JarosławGibas #RoadAdventures #MentalFocus #EmbraceTheJourney
