This type of thinking pulls you away from the present moment and your ability to truly enjoy it. One of the best gifts you can give to yourself and to others is your presence - bringing as much of your attention to the now as you can. Be in it. Feel it. Learn from it. That morning coffee and musings! Do you set your plan and goals for the day when you enjoy that first cup of coffee/tea? I often drink my coffee intentfully, and set an intent for the day. What do I want my day to look like? how would I like to feel? how would I like to make others feel? how much physical activity I need to bring in? how much I need to accept what the day brings? How would I like to respond to things that don’t go as per my plans? These questions help me as a gentle reminder through the day and allows me to respond and not react, it gives me a purpose and not allow excuses. Have you found yourself getting frustrated with the expectations you set? What if instead you were open to experiencing what life has in store for you? But how do we do that? Perhaps the first step is to acknowledge that we don’t have control over most of the things that happen in our lives. And that ‘forcing’ things may only bring more discomfort.
