As viewer preferences continue to change, innovation plays a critical role. But which technologies and trends are shaping this fast-paced, emotionally charged, ever-changing space? Anatomy of a live production in Ultra HD...
Speaking to SVG Europe during Euro 2024, BBC Sport engineering manager Andy Underhill discusses the multi-site remote production workflow for the corporation’s tournament coverage. In Berlin, for Euro 2024, BBC Sport has two extended reality (XR) presentation studios, a gallery, an analysis room, a technical control room and production offices. Everything is housed in a temporary studio complex built by BMS (Broadcast Media Solutions) that sits directly opposite the Brandenburg Gate. The workflow is remote, linking Berlin with the IBC in Leipzig and BBC Sport’s HQ in Salford. https://lnkd.in/gs_8Ub5y

Cross-Functionality is the name of the game! I've been fortunate enough to watch many trends within the Media and Entertainment space. Through technological advancements, contract negotiations, and industry pivots we see production workflows shift. The major players in the industry are looking at new ways to approach how they create, and deliver to audiences. Whether that be streamlining the creative pipeline, how to efficiently bring projects to market, or how to engage the audience in new and immersive ways... it is no secret that the creative industry is in a large shift at the moment! While the strikes and contract negotiations received most of the headlines, other aspects of the industry were also undergoing changes throughout the entire pipeline. We are seeing more large scale projects shift internationally, live events being produced similar to cinematic workflows, and broadcast environments testing some of the most cutting edge technology! Because of these changes, I think 2025 will be the year of cross-functionality! Studios like Netflix, Amazon and Apple are bringing sporting events to their subscribers, while also looking for new opportunities to engage the fanbase, and immerse their streaming audiences to their titles and IP. We've seen it with NFL and Spongebob, and will continue to see the lines blur between different types of entertainment! Finding opportunities to leverage technology that can support all of those bullet points will prove to be a priority for the studios and production companies. Bringing title IP, and assorted professional sports, along with supporting activations will not only be valuable, but critical to modern entertainment. Because of that, partnerships in traditional on-prem technologies, along with support partnerships for virtual workflows and environments will leverage strengths and work together to create some of the most impressive visual experiences we have ever seen. New venues, new partnerships, and new ways to engage the audience will all lead the way! As I hear more and more from my circle, I continue to become more excited for what the future holds within Media and Entertainment! #Broadcast #virtualproduction #streaming #filmmaking #createtogether #unrealengine

𝗠𝗮𝘅 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲. Last year, HBO Max was rebranded as Max. In June, Max will replace HBO Max and will be launched in most European countries, including Poland. The price of the service in European markets is not yet known. The rebranding is a result of Discovery's merger with WarnerMedia and its transformation into Warner Bros. Discovery in 2022. It will also be the biggest change and product launch in the company's history and one of the biggest events in our industry this year. Of course, the new platform will include not only HBO and Max Original content, but also sports events from Eurosport, local productions. Every sports fan will be able to enjoy the biggest sporting events from speedway arenas, the Paris 2024 Olympics, tennis courts and ski jumping. According to media reports, Warner Bros. Discovery plans to operate the Player platform in the Polish market under its own brand. Max will have a huge library of content for every age group. And the name itself, according to press releases and media articles, will best reflect the wealth of content that will be available to all of us who use the service. The return of Max to local production could also be an exciting announcement for the new service. This is a huge opportunity for many great projects from European directors and writers. As we all know, the competition doesn't sleep. As far as I'm concerned, the streaming video service platforms, which are pushing each other, are outdoing each other in expanding their content libraries and making them more attractive, not only with original productions. It is a good phenomenon that all platforms are constantly working to improve the quality of the video and audio experience for us viewers. Let us know what you think in the comments. You can find a link to the full article in the first comment under this post.
