Here are some key highlights that underscore Panama's promising future: Enhanced Air Connectivity: - Copa Airlines, under the leadership of CEO Pedro Heilbron, is focused on boosting Panama's connectivity, making it a prime destination for tourism, business, and conventions. - Panama manages around 31% of Latin America's air connections, facilitating passenger transit between the south and north, and to the Caribbean and Central America. Rising Tourism: - The number of tourists increased by 12% between January and March, with hotels reporting an occupancy rate of 61.6%. - In 2023, Tocumen International Airport handled over 17.82 million passengers, with 71.97% being transit or connecting travelers. Innovative Programs: - The Stop Over program aims to attract over 150,000 tourists to Panama by allowing travelers to visit Panama as a second destination at no extra cost. - Since its inception in 2019, the program has brought in 320,000 visitors, with 120,000 tourists processed in 2023. Here are the main highlights: - Transition Leadership: Gloria De León, the designated administrator of the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP), has begun the transition process with Denise Guillén and Fernando Fondevilla, director of Promtur. - Tourism Potential: The tourism and aviation sectors together have the potential to contribute over 16% of Panama's GDP. - Visitor Growth: In the first quarter of this year, Panama welcomed 857,235 international visitors, marking a 10% increase compared to the same period last year. Colombia | 8.5% Increase in Visitors in the First Half of 2024 Colombia received 3.1 million visitors in the first half of 2024, a number that means an increase of 8.5% compared to the same period last year. The South American country is a destination that has long stood out in inbound tourism thanks to its immense cultural and gastronomic richness and these data confirm that this country is one of Latin America's favorites for travelers coming from abroad. During the 28th edition of the National Congress of Travel and Tourism Agencies ANATO attended by the National Government and more than 800 participants from the tourism sector, the essential importance of joint work between the public-private sectors was reflected and the Executive President of ANATO stated that these figures continue to contribute positively to the travel industry. The countries with the highest income from foreign visitors continued to be the United States of America, Mexico and Ecuador respectively with 30%, 8% and 8% The nations that are consolidating with the greatest growth in terms of the number of international visitors who reach Colombia for reasons related to tourism or business are Guatemala with an increase of 62% followed by Honduras and Costa Rica with an increase of 57% and 49% respectively. Other statistics also indicated the top three colombian destinations that recorded the highest number of visitors which were Bogotá with 33%, Antioquia 27% and Bolivar 22%. As far as the departments are concerned, in terms of arrival of travellers, Antioquia recorded an increase of 30%, followed by Bolivar with 25% and Risaralda 18%. Enterprises are placing increasing emphasis on overseas business travel car rentals. Zuzuche's data as of May 2024 highlights: 🚗 Business travel bookings have rebounded at a faster pace than leisure travel, accounting for around 10% of total orders - a 5 percentage point increase from 2019. Demand from SMEs has already returned to 2019 benchmarks. 🌎 The top 10 overseas business travel destinations are: USA, GER, AUS, ITA, THA, NZL, ESP, FRA, UAE, and GBR.
