Thank you Mary Huen for inviting me to speak at the 2024 Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA) Annual Conference, themed “Hong Kong’s New Horizon.” I was part of a plenary session called “Sustainable Business Models in Action” alongside Hugo Montanari Managing Director of Rosewood Hong Kong and Keith Siu COO (HK & Macau) of Hong Kong Maxim's Group moderated by Joe Ngai Chairman Greater China McKinsey & Company. Inspiring to hear what companies are doing in embedding sustainability in their business and some great ideas for others: ⭐️ Rosewood has special needs students work in their Bluhouse BluUP upskilling program and has joined forces with YM Fleur, a social enterprise affiliated with the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong with the aim to support and empower single mothers and new immigrant females in Hong Kong. They have created a range of upcycled decorative floral products using excess and aged flowers from our resident florist, Blooms & Blossoms. ⭐️ Maxims has fully embedded sustainability in their DNA, recycling food and oils to create new products - I’m trying #coffeebob this week a collaboration with the wonderful local start up Breer by Anushka Purohit (She/Her/Hers) making beer from bread 🍞!! Thank you Rosewood Hotel Group and Hong Kong Maxim's Group for leading by example. So inspiring 🥰. I was fortunate to explain why womens health and femtech is also an important part of social impact : 💰Women are wealthy - Asian women have more wealth than all other regions combined, except North America 💊Women are ageing - life expectancy is going up, health span is not. Did you know women in Hong Kong have a life expectancy of 88 years old 💪🏻 🛍️Women are super consumers - women control 80% of household spend and 85% of healthcare spend 👩🍼Women are caregivers - over 80% of caregivers are women. Although women have more to spend, they spend more time in poor health due to gender health gap. We should change that cause it’s the right thing to do but also good for business - they hold the 👛 strings and take care of our elders and children. We need to keep our women healthy! Femtech is also the only area of technology where more than 70% of Femtech companies had at least one female founder making it one of the most inclusive areas in tech 👩🏼👩🏻👩🏽👩🏻🦱👩🏻🦰👱🏻♀️👩🏻🦳 It’s going to take a village but was inspired by this session - be the change you want to see and these great leaders were doing just that 💪🏻 #femtech #femtechfuture #hkma #WomensHealth #TechForGood #socialimpact #femalefounders #DEI FemTech Future Limited
