Day 11
Different between Done and Acceptance criteria
The Definition of Done and Acceptance Criteria serve different purposes in the Scrum process:
Definition of Done (DoD):
Scope: Applies to the entire Increment (the sum of all completed Product Backlog Items).
Purpose: Ensures that the Increment meets all required quality standards and is ready for release.
Standards: Includes all necessary criteria such as coding standards, testing, documentation, and other activities that need to be completed for the Increment to be considered done.
Commitment: A commitment by the Development Team to ensure that all work meets these standards before considering the Increment complete.
Acceptance Criteria:
Scope: Specific to individual Product Backlog Items or user stories.
Purpose: Defines what is required for a particular Product Backlog Item to be considered complete and acceptable from the user's perspective.
Details: Specifies conditions, functionalities, or requirements that the Product Backlog Item must satisfy for the Product Owner to accept it.
Validation: Used to validate that the Product Backlog Item meets the expected functionality and quality as per user requirements.
In summary, the Definition of Done ensures that the entire Increment is of high quality and ready for release, while Acceptance Criteria ensure that each individual Product Backlog Item meets specific requirements and functionalities as agreed upon by the team and stakeholders. Both are crucial for maintaining quality and ensuring that the development work aligns with stakeholder needs and organizational standards.
