🌟 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT 🌟 #826Boston is full of incredible volunteers, and today we’re highlighting Azure Mauche(she/her)! Q: Can you tell us why you wanted to volunteer at 826 Boston? A: One of my favorite educators, Dr. Gholdy Muhammad, speaks about how writing provides students with multiple tools—including a voice to express themselves and an avenue to recognize their strengths and dreams. For me, this captures why the mission of 826 Boston is so important and why I have supported the 826 community since last year. Not only do I believe service is a civic responsibility, but as a mother, I understand that it takes a collective effort to support our young people. I appreciate the opportunity to contribute in a small way by walking alongside students on their writing paths. Whether supporting a student in after-school tutoring, a résumé workshop, or a college essay writing session, I always leave feeling invigorated. Q: Wow, what a beautiful testament! Can you tell us about yourself? A: In my professional life, I advocate for educational justice by supporting the academic and career goals of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people through the Petey Greene Program. In my free time, I am happiest when hiking in the mountains or connecting with nature in and around Boston. I am infinitely curious about the world around me and always excited to learn something new. I endeavor to bring that passion to all of my interactions with students at 826 Boston. 🌟 Here’s what our team had to say about Azure: “Azure approaches her work with students with such intention and care. Her ability to make connections with students in such a short period of time during a workshop is incredible. She creates such a welcoming and inviting space, no matter what school, workshop, or students she's working with. I especially love her commitment and dedication to our programs and mission. Her passion for education and writing is so apparent in her work, and the way she expresses this shows up in her engagements with students. “Azure goes above and beyond in her work with students. Anytime she's supported our programs, I see her trying out new writing and tutoring techniques with the students she’s working with. She takes the initiative to check in with everyone and is constantly striving to be the best tutor she can be! She's also been our most reliable tutor this season! I always look forward to working with Azure and having her presence with the students.” Thank you, Azure, for all that you do and for being a spectacular #826BostonVolunteer! 🌟🌟 🎉 Do you want to be part of 826 Boston’s incredible team of volunteers and make a lasting impression on students like Azure?
