What an insightful opinion piece on the importance of supporting the arts in our beloved Aberdeen. It highlights the pivotal role the arts play in shaping our identity and building a vibrant community. Investing in local arts projects, apprenticeships and careers promises a cultural boom for Aberdeen yet funding is incredibly challenging right now. With more council cuts looming, we should not loose sight on the importance the arts has for community and the transformative experiences it can bring. #CulturalInvestment #VibrantCommunity https://lnkd.in/eS3eYsNm

The 10 ARTS Foundation is proud to partner with the New York Film Academy in turning creative potential into reality. As NYFA’s David Klein states: “By prioritizing arts education, we empower students to pursue their passions and fulfill their potential. We equip them not only with the tools they need to succeed in any occupation but to make their unique and meaningful mark on the world.” This shared vision fuels the 10 ARTS mission: to provide scholarships that enable NYFA students to explore their creativity without financial limitations. By investing in their dreams, we are nurturing the next generation of artists, filmmakers, and visionaries who will shape the future through their stories. In 2013, 530,700 young Germans started apprenticeships. In the same year, just under 500,000 Germans were admitted for a University degree. The German apprenticeship system is legendary; millions of Germans never went to University but completed their ‘degree’ via an apprenticeship. What I’ve noticed/realised is that successful policies generally tend to be designed to support cultural practices that have been around for a long time. I think parallels can be drawn between the German system which has been around for around a millennium and the Igbo apprenticeship system. The only difference is that one is institutionalised while the other isn’t. Make of that what you will. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/d3DqSUdz

Just finished my first year as a full time faculty member and the Director of a #musicaltheatre and #theatre program. Here are my end of the year thoughts 💡 🔸Our choices should always be student centered. 🔸Hold true to your boundaries. 🔸Teaching somehow ends up at the bottom of the priority list (amongst admin duties). 🔸Students want and need structure. 🔸Expectations should always be made clear from the start. 🔸You won’t be friends with everyone. 🔸Culture shock is a real thing. 🔸It’s okay to be frustrated. 🔸Have a solution based mentality. 🔸Change takes time. 🔸Hidden curriculum is real. 🔸Pedagogy should be a requirement for all teachers/professors. 🔸Teaching doesn’t mean talking. 🔸Just because it’s “how you’ve always done it,” doesn’t mean there isn’t a better or more efficient way. 🔸A supportive Dean makes all the difference. 🔸Curriculum needs to and should be re-evaluated. 🔸Ask for help/advice from people you trust. 🔸Stay active and up to date within your industry. 🔸I’m grateful to have a job! What would your advice be from a #universityprofessor or in #highereducation ❓
