The tiny detail can be the make or break in the course of healthcare delivery. Infection Prevention and Control needs one to be extra vigilant
Consultant Physician and Adjunct Clinical Professor in Infectious Diseases, Senior Healthcare leader, Business and Executive Coach, Author
This is so true of Medicine and Infectious Diseases as a specialty. We simply cannot and do not cut corners. One small detail from the patient's history, examination or investigation changes management and can lead to life-changing treatment. That is why we do what we do at TIDD SSMC and why patients come to us. We also train our residents fellows accordingly Steven Bartlett #infectiousdiseases #medicine #success

Contrary to popular belief, giving anti-diarrheal medications, including antibiotics, to young children without medical supervision can be risky. These medications may not be safe for children, and they can potentially worsen the condition by prolonging the underlying infection. It's crucial for parents and caregivers to consult a pediatrician before administering any medication, including antibiotics, to children with diarrhea to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment. #diarrhea #diarrheamyth #myth #healthcare #babycue #fightagainstdiarrhea World Health Organization IIThe National Institutes of HealthII MANISH KUMAR SWAIN II Sefali Maurya II Rishika Kedia II Rhythm Karir.

At the end of 2023, the Victorian Department of Health changed the guidelines for isolating patients colonised with Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales, which is a particularly nasty gut bacteria. Incidence of CPE has been steadily rising, as is pressure for beds in single-patient rooms. So, the requirement to isolate a patient every time they come to hospital has been relaxed, allowing patients to be risk assessed for clearance 12 months after infection. We showed that this policy change will only result in a small reduction in demand for single-patient beds, and if current trends continue, within 12 months the demand will be back to where it is today. It just goes to show that health policy is very challenging. While this change is likely a positive one for patients and hospitals, we still need to keep investing in our healthcare system. US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released the 2024 Oral Health Surveillance Report, using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. ✔️Half of children aged 6 to 9 years have had cavities in their primary or permanent teeth. ✔️1 in 5 adults aged 20 to 64 years had at least one untreated cavity. ✔️More than 1 in 7 adults aged 65 or older had lost all their teeth. ✔️Disparities in oral health status persists. Mexican Americans and non-Hispanic Blacks, people from families with low incomes, those with less education, and those who currently smoke- have the highest levels of cavities and tooth loss or the lowest levels of treated cavities and tooth retention. These patterns have remained the same since they were first reported in the 2000 Oral Health in America: A Report of the Surgeon General.
