As the darker, cooler days of fall arrive, I make time to reflect on my summer memories. Positive memories help me gradually make room for new experiences and traditions in the new season. Today, something funny happened. I was reminded of my summer adventures in the strangest of places: my LinkedIn feed! It was refreshing to see how a small sports marketing company introduced a unique word to catch my attention. It's a creative way to direct people to their Mother Runner podcast and running programs. What's the new term? "Traincation." This word perfectly describes what I've been doing for over a decade: booking open water swim camps and holidays in faraway places--from The Big Island to Greece. I see the world, meet other fun loving athletes, and stay healthy. (I also get to eat more ice cream). What a winning combination. 🌊 Why should YOU care? Because creative, low-cost methods to stand out in a sea of competitors can work. New language can help you frame your narrative. If it can work for Salesforce with "Agentforce," or with a sports startup that markets traincations, it can work for you. 🏊♂️ What new words might help your organization rise above a sea of sameness? Thank you Natalie Nixon, PhD for the inspiration. P.S. My next traincation? Lycian Way, Turkey 2025 with SwimTrek Adventure Swimming Holidays!
Have you ever taken a 'traincation'? It's more than just a break from your daily routine. A 'traincation' is a unique opportunity to step out of your comfort zone, learn something new, and experience personal growth. For me, it was a journey to SwimTrek Adventure Swimming Holidays to enhance my swimming skills. But for Anna van der Wouden, who joined me on the Many Happy Miles Podcast, it was a different adventure, focusing on triathlon training with Purple Patch Fitness We chatted with The Mother Runner about balancing training with rest, reflection, and personal growth. The conversation was full of insights into how these moments of 'reset' fuel long-term progress. In this episode, we discuss the concept of a 'traincation' and its role in personal growth and fitness. Imagine yourself... You're in a swimming pool, with a blindfold on, trying to find your way out. You swim in one direction for a little while, don't find the wall, turn, swim another way, and then another way. Basically you're swimming around randomly in the middle of the pool, never finding your way out! Instead, if you picked one direction and kept swimming long enough, you would find the edge of the pool. It's there. You just need to focus and go in one direction long enough. I see this happen with a lot of my clients as they work on their #fibromyalgia symptoms. They continually try one thing after another... but they don't stay with anything long enough to see results. (For example, some treatment options may take months to work, yet they move on after a few days or weeks.) Can you relate? Are you "swimming" around the middle of the pool without finding your way out? Why not stop, pick ONE thing to focus on, and try that for 30-90 days and see what happens? It's a tricky thing to balance between accepting where you are right now today and continually striving for something better. Hear more about how to find that balance — and the pitfalls you'll run into if you don't find your balance — in Episode 138 of the Fibromyalgia Podcast. Typically, the interviews Alison Brown and I do are long form. We love digging into a topic with a guest, because after you build up trust during an interview, you can really uncover some interesting information. The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee Team USA Media Summit provided the opposite opportunity: Working on our ability to get good information within just a couple of minutes. That really shows on this episode -- we've got some quick hits with 8 different athletes, and we still learned a ton about sport in the process! #podcasting #interviews #skilldevelopment #sports #olympics
On our Olympic episode this week, we're in the pool with Team USA -- water polo, swimming, diving, and artistic swimming interviews that we captured at the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee Media Summit this past spring. In our short time with these great athletes, we learned a lot about improvement--and when to say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Lydia Jacoby, reigning Olympic champion in the 100m breaststroke, is featured on this episode. We asked her what she's been working on the last three years to improve her times, and she responded frankly, "I would say we've left my kick alone because I have one of the best kicks in the world." That's a great lesson to remember -- sure, we all want to get better, but sometimes you don't want to mess with a good thing. What in your working life or company is going so well that you leave it alone? Take a listen--we'd love to hear your thoughts on this episode! https://lnkd.in/e29-WpDE #improvement #selfawareness #podcasting

☀️ Happy Sunday! 🎙 This week we're sharing a moment from @thebombhole - a snowboard podcast that features the stories and mindsets of top snowboard athletes and other members of the snowboarding culture. 💭 Episode 116 of this podcast features professional snowboarder Rob Roethler, a Burton rider hailing from Minnesota. This quick snippet from their conversation was worth noting, as he is effectively training his visualization skills in his sleep. 💤 As he states, he is preparing for the "desired scene" before sleeping and then journaling throughout/upon waking up. 💡 This is an awesome way to train the skill of visualization. When you do so, try to involve all of the senses and make it as vivid as you can, while paying attention to how you're able to control the image and situation as a whole. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gnchs3mT ------------------------------ #performance #sport #psychology #dreams #visualize #journal
