👉 Delighted to have been part of this semiconductor success story coming out of the Cambridge cluster and to support its growth. 👉 The excellent recent UKTIN Expert Working Group Future Capabilities paper acknowledged the UK's expertise in GPU design and AI technology, name-checking Graphcore, Arm, Codasip, Imagination Technologies and Apple's design centre near Watford but - somewhat plaintively - concluded that "in general, it is still safe to say that all AI activity will done on foreign chips, designed in the US and made in Taiwan." 👉 Kudos to Walter Goodwin and the Fractile team and investors Kindred Capital VC and NATO Innovation Fund (NIF) for taking up the challenge of disproving that prediction! 👉 Its strategy for sidestepping the CUDA lock-in from which nVidia benefits (and which makes it hard for a start-up to break into the AI for training space), by focusing on scaleability and in-memory compute for IA inference (rather than AI training), is intriguing. Definitely one to watch. #Semiconductors #Innovation #SiliconCatalyst #ChipStartUK

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang says the level of computing performance is about to grow exponentially during the coming decade, enabling new AI innovations and capabilities. “Over the next ten years, our hope is that we could double or triple performance every year at scale.” “I wouldn’t be surprised, if the way people think about Moore’s Law which is 2X every couple years, we’re going to be on some kind of hyper Moore’s Law curve.” “When you double or triple every year in just a few years it adds up. It compounds really, really aggressively.” “The scale of the problems we could address has changed a lot, we set ourselves up to be able to scale computing and develop software at a level nobody has ever imagined before.” #ai #aifactory #digitalinfrastructure
