Pat's boldness is evident in his accomplishment of achieving a goal of five nodes within four years. Great conversation with Sam-would like to see more details on the collaboration-does it entail optimizing Intel hardware solutions, including CPUs, GPUs, and specialized AI accelerators, to enhance support for OpenAI's deep learning algorithms and frameworks?

I strongly urged the Intel board to let go Pat Gelsinger more than 2 years ago. People I know thought I'm doubting Pat's ability to turnaround the failing giant. Some suggested I delete my post. But I clearly saw the future. The game was over for Pat within the first 18 months of joining Intel. Intel is all infighting, politics and carving territory. None of the senior executives have the vision to take Intel to the next generation. Pentium was their last game. They failed to compete with ARM, AMD, Nvidia, Apple and Qualcomm. Intel has failed to integrate any of its acquisitions. Intel miserably failed against Korean and Taiwanese competitors in CPUs and storage. Pat is leaving the company with nothing to mention. For Intel shareholders like me and others, it was 4 years of failure.

I am retiring from Intel effective today. February 6, 1989, I joined as Intel's U.S. employee #51302 - a company with just over 21,000 employees. The Annual report that year heralds the drive to upgrade the industry to 32 bits offering both the i486 and i860 to help: https://lnkd.in/g7rWBQRD Since then, my desire to make computers go FAST and FASTER let me be a part of many projects, including two #1 ranked supercomputers, and one #2 ranked supercomputer. Most important of all, were all the fellow employees that I was privileged to work along side, and many others in the industry with whom I had the privilege to collaborate. Some of those collaborations led to the more than a dozen technical books that I helped create. Life is an ongoing journey of learning and discovery, and I am grateful to Intel and my colleagues for enriching my experience and helping me grow enormously along the way. Bittersweet as leaving is, I am extraordinarily happy to be embarking on a real retirement now. I hope to see many of my former colleagues in the future, some of whom will reminisce with me on the Intel I joined - before the internet (yes, we had ARPAnet), before email (as far as most of the world knew), before PowerPoint, before online calendars, and before connecting people with smartphones. How did we survive? While these statements might make me sound old; just like stories I used to hear of life before electricity, indoor plumbing, automobiles, telephones, and highways; I will point out that change is coming faster than ever - and we've only scratched the surface of what’s to come (good and bad). It’s a thought that brings me hope, as we all have a role in shaping a better future. My love for Star Trek has always stemmed from the belief that technology should enhance our future; we must continue to guide it in that direction. I cherish technology and firmly believe that our contributions have made the world a slightly better place. Go Blue!

I feel tremendously proud to mark my 20th year in AMD with an interview with Lianhe Zaobao 联合早报 . Few key summaries: 1) The title, <Corporate culture is the secret sauce>, sums up AMD's open, honest and collaborative culture. It is under this culture that, through the ups and downs over the years, AMDers overcome challenges together and went on to achieve success. 2) AMD values and respects employees. Every employee has a voice (through annual AMD survey). 3) AMD gives back to communities in Singapore, through partnerships with schools and non-profits. 4) My own life journey with a child who requires long term care. It hasn't been easy (at times challenging) to juggle work and family life, but thankfully I have a supportive manager in Paul Yioutas .
