We have a new beer coming, and it is one we never anticipated making.   About a year ago, our friends at the Sheraton Hotel challenged us to make a beer using honey from their culinary garden on the rooftop of the Sheraton downtown. The sales team and I got very excited. The brewers, not so much.   Honey in a beer… Isn't someone else in DFW doing that already? And it's their flagship beer, right? Yes, which is why we knew we couldn't also use citrus. That made the challenge even harder because the flavors pair perfectly together!   After a year of playing with variations and sometimes avoiding the project altogether, we created a beautiful honey lager that our brewers love just as much as the sales team. You can taste the honey, but it's not over the top or too sweet. And no fake adjuncts. It's truth to materials with the honey exactly as it should be.   Now, it needs a name! We've been brainstorming, and we need help. Do you love any of these names or have ideas?   Buzz Brigade Bee-52 (I can't believe how much I love this one) Buzz Bomber Sweet Victory (might be a trademark violation) Honeycore Golden Cargo   It will be on tap on Tuesday. It's not ready for distribution yet. We need a name first so then we can label it!

In the fancy restaurant you are not paying for the wine alone. You are paying for the ambience, the fine table clothes, the cozy chairs, the linen table cloth, the wine waiter's expertise, etc. Paying for more than the bottle. You are paying for the value. Daily Dollop of Wallop #66 Had a call with a long standing client (of sorts - he is a mate who owns a few different types of bars in East Sussex and he asks me for wine advice, and pays me for it. So hang on, yes indeed, a client!) yesterday morning and after the managers meeting that he holds every Monday, he mentioned to me that the wine list at his smaller venue in Brighton, is the best in town. I interrupted him mid flow and asked "according to who?". He answered "well, we think it's the best, we decided. You look at others round The Lanes and we think ours is the best". It angered me. In short, I advised him never to use the phrase 'the best' unless you have the agreement in the form of metrics, from your competitors to enable you to decide on who the best actually is. To simply declare yourselves 'the best' without any backup is careless and unsubstantiated but also, and most importantly, a COMPLETE TURN OFF. Most people are actually dissuaded from a venue when seeing a sign that reads 'best coffee in town' or 'best burger in the city' or 'best wine list around'. So, I advised him, after a mini argument, to use the word 'favourite' instead. To use this word, is unarguable. It is a far softer way to say that you are the 'firm favourite among guests for a glass of wine' than it is to say something more like the above. This little play on one principle can change things up. Keen to hear some thoughts on this. Leverage your beverage.

#3 Nadya's adulting story Since 2022, my life partner Valentin SPOUTIL 李萬龍, and his business partner Simon Habran have been importing Belgian Beer in Taiwan, Brewery Bertinchamps. Getting to witness all of this up close — discussing small or big matters with Valentin (though what about an opinion from a 25 years old right..... 😅), delivering beers from bar to bar, and labeling countless bottles of beer. Now, most of our weekend drinking involves introducing Bertinchamps. (I have never worked in sales before, a significant percentage of the restaurants we approach convert to sales has given me a taste of the exhilarating rush of selling). I wasn't initially a fan of beer, but this whole journey has raised me to become someone that would enjoy a bottle of Legére 12pm on a Sunday, and a Triple on a cold Saturday night. (I'm not sure it's a good thing but well, anything with moderation, let's say?) It was fun and enriching, like enrolling in a business course for free. (Or for my labor in exchange? 🤔) Over the past two years, this Taipei Wine Show is a good indicator on how much they have grown. 2022, they started with a free booth supported by a partner, in exchange, all sales revenue went to the partner. 2023, they shared a small-size booth with the same partner. 2024, they are now confident to take a full booth themselves. Also in 2024, they expanded, bringing more brands of Belgium beer, not only Bertinchamps, like from Omer Vander Ghinste, etc, hence the name beer-square.tw. With this significant exponential growth, they want to continue bringing more selection of good beers in Taiwan. And each time I joined them for this kind of exhibition, it has been incredibly enjoyable. Getting to meet fellow people in the F&B industry and beer enthusiast. It's never just about selling beers, but all the chats and knowledge exchanging. Sometimes when my social battery ran out, I'll be hiding at the back labelling their cups or something, observing the bustling crowd, enjoying the ambience.
