National Apprenticeship Week Nov 17-23! 🎉 The theme for National Apprenticeship Week 2024 was “10 Years of Engagement, Expansion and Innovation,” reflecting the transformative power of Registered Apprenticeship and its ability to bring together key national, regional, state and local stakeholders from across the country to find workforce solutions and create essential on-ramps for career seekers. Spent the week travelling and hosting Amazon events in Seattle (WA), Austin (TX), and Arlington (VA). These were my highlights from the week: ✅ Hearing from current and former apprentices and learning about their apprenticeship journey. ✅ Discussing the value of apprenticeships from managers, business partners, and stakeholders. ✅ Creating a space for folks at all levels to gather and network. ✅ 3 cities, 3 timezones, 3 hotels, and 4 airports. ✅ Connecting with new and old teammates who made it out to the events. ✅ Making new connections with business partners, government officials, and the internal network. ✅ Visiting Austin, TX and HQ2 for the first time. Whether you're just starting out or looking to upskill, apprenticeships can open doors to exciting opportunities. I will always continue to support and grow this incredible pathway to success. ⚡️This morning I took a trip down memory lane…⚡️ I visited my old school to give a talk to students on apprenticeships, and how they’re a fantastic alternative to university. 🏫 As a big advocate for this career route, it was amazing to see such a great turnout of students interested in learning about apprenticeship opportunities. 📈 I was accompanied by two other former students, Morgan Haining and Lydia Cunningham Cooper, who also chose the apprentice route at BP and JP Morgan. Out of our school year of 120+ students, only 4 ended up doing apprenticeships; Our aim was to spread awareness of this route, and share our experiences with: - 📝 The application process - 🎓 How the qualification side of things work - 😎 The day-to-day working experience - ❌ Our key mistakes and learnings - 🏖️ What life outside of work looks like! We wanted to give them a better idea of what an apprenticeship could look like for them, and to potentially consider applying for one! 💪 Before we left, we asked the audience if they would consider applying for an apprenticeship, more than half of them raised their hands. 🙌 It was also brilliant to also learn about Morgan and Lydia’s apprenticeship experiences too! 💙 Big thanks to Simon Langton Boys School for giving us the opportunity to broaden students options, and being so accommodating to us. 😊 #proffessionalgrowth #amazon #amazonprime #amazonuk #apprenticeship #london #success #opportunities #development #marketing #skills #career #marketingsociety #education #publicspeaking #careeradvice #school #youngpeople

I had the opportunity to attend the Young Professionals conference in Birmingham today. Here’s what I learned: 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀: I spoke with representatives from Amazon and Goldman Sachs about the degree apprenticeship route, discussing the pros and cons compared to traditional university pathways. We covered topics such as: • The typical day-to-day responsibilities of an apprentice. • The working environment and the kinds of tasks they handle. • Career progression after completing an apprenticeship. 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀: One panel focused on the application and interview processes for competitive apprenticeships. I learned that, in addition to the standard assessment centers and interviews, some firms require aptitude tests and team-based problem-solving tasks to identify the skills they’re looking for. It was a valuable experience that provided a deeper understanding of the apprenticeship process and what employers expect from candidates.
