Yesterday we turned up for a spa afternoon at The Spa At Breedon Priory expecting a random Wednesday, overcast, windy day in March would be reasonably quiet. Well, I couldn’t have been more wrong! There was a full complement of people waiting to enjoy the relaxation of the day. Warm outdoor pool (one cold pool which only a few braved including mum) and saunas and steam room complete with a delicious lunch. It made me think of Daniel Priestley's book Oversubscribed. Breedon spa is the epitome of "oversubscribed". They have gotten their brand strategy exactly right to enable a full complement of guests on an unexpected day of the week. So, what is it they do right? Unapologetic pricing. Luxurious looking website enabling quick booking and payment. Easy online health forms with helpful reminders to fill in. Warm and luxurious welcome. Clean and inviting. Amazing chef. Friendly staff. Award winning. They also make use of the Value Ladder. By having a good quality gym (Breedon Priory Health Club) attached, which we are also members of, the first place we think of for a spa day is right next door to where we go every day, and because it is a step in luxury too, it still feels special. There’s no such thing as too many questions about plunging… When I go in and talk to owners and operators about adding a Plunge to their facility offerings, I’m typically met with a lot of questions. And I get it. This is a totally new avenue for many people. But it’s one worth pursuing because of how much interest there is in the practice of cold plunging. It’s literally what can set you apart from all the competition. Questions I get are often around logistics and maintenance, and while Plunges are not at all complicated or difficult to set up and maintain, one of our goals is to work with everyone however necessary to ensure success. Participation trends 2023 - Part 3 In February, we presented the public leisure trends from 2023 to CIMSPA members on a webinar. The participation trends revealed 96% of the sample of over 36,000 respondents said they use the leisure centre to manage their physical health and wellbeing and 86% prefer exercising in the leisure centre than in a more informal setting. This data serves as a valuable tool for leisure centres in strategic decision-making, enabling them to prioritise investments that align with their customers' preferences and needs, thus ensuring optimal alignment between services offered and customer expectations.
