Good news story: New paper from the Productivity Commission shows that Australia’s health care productivity was relatively high and grew at a healthy rate through the last decade. 🎉 Quality improvements, not cost reductions, were the big drivers of productivity growth, and the vast majority of these came from advances in saving lives. 👩⚕️ Beyond the important policy take-outs regarding future gains from digital technology and better preventative health, the paper is a great example of how we can improve quality-adjusted productivity estimates for human services.

Australia's National Digital Health Strategy has identified 4 overall outcomes for the health system: digitally enabled, person-centred, inclusive, and data-driven. These outcomes aim to solve current and emerging health system challenges that have presented themselves post-pandemic. The focus is to enable the Australian healthcare system to become more streamlined and efficient at delivering individual care for communities across the nation.
