What constitutes a breakthrough in research ? For me, it is figuring out novel insights that appear convincingly counter-intuitive on the basis of current evidence pool. One can take under-correction for example: The vast majority of eye care professionals are aware of the traditional consequences of routine under-correction. Except there is a small catch: Only when under-correction (myopic defocus in this context) is done under a bright indirect sunlight environment and restricted to that duration only, it quickly becomes the single most important thing that can be done for Physiologic Myopia. It promotes active emmetropization and stops axial elongation in its tracks. And that is what makes it a true scientific breakthrough in my eyes - uncovering a phenomena that would have been gone unnoticed otherwise. What is yours ? I would love to hear.

We unveil the development of photocaged TRPV1 ligands that can be precisely tethered and targeted using bioorthogonal chemistry and light stimulation. Coined OCT-ligands, these tools allow unprecedented spatiotemporal control over TRPV1 activation and will allow us to dissect the function of TRPV1 in pain management and other neurological disorders.
