An offer for you? Do you want 5 *free* coaching sessions? I am, very excitingly, about to embark on my own learning journey for a little while, as I move towards gaining my International Coaching Federation PCC (Professional Certified Coach) credential. The ever brilliant Liz Wilson and I met this morning for my first PCC mentoring session (which as always revealed unexpected things that I need to think about) and I left with ponderings about how I will go about gaining the 2 session recordings I will need to submit to the ICF. What I’ve decided is to ask both my existing clients as well as someone who I’ve not coached before, as I way to experiment and explore each of those different contexts… ie working in an established relationship and forming a new one. As such, I will be offering 5 *free* coaching sessions to 1 individual. (I say free, but in actual fact what I’d be looking for in return is your permission to record our sessions and your feedback on the experience of being coached by me, to help me learn and sharpen up my skills.) Who’s interested? Message me and we can set up an initial conversation. Thank you! #coach #coaching #PCC #learning #mentoring #ReflectivePractise #JustB #ProfessionalCertifiedCoach

Coaching, Mentoring, and Training: What’s the Difference? When it comes to professional growth, it’s essential to understand the distinctions between coaching, mentoring, and training, as each serves a different purpose: 🔹 Coaching: This is a targeted, short-term process focused on achieving specific goals. Coaches help individuals unlock their potential by guiding them through self-discovery and strategy development. It’s ideal for improving performance in a particular area. 🔹 Mentoring: Mentoring is about long-term personal and professional growth. A mentor, usually a more experienced individual, provides ongoing guidance, sharing insights and advice drawn from their own experiences. It’s relationship-based and focuses on broader career development. 🔹 Training: Training is structured and standardized, designed to impart specific skills or knowledge to a group. It’s content-driven, often involving a curriculum, and is usually short-term with clear learning objectives. Understanding these differences helps in selecting the right approach for your needs—whether you’re aiming for skill acquisition, seeking long-term career guidance, or looking to achieve specific performance goals. #Coaching #Mentoring #Training #CareerDevelopment #Leadership

MENTORING VS. COACHING: THE KEY DIFFERENCES AND BENEFITS: 🔳 The Skills Required for Coaching ◾ A relationship of equals where the coach and coachee have mutual understanding and respect is critical. ◾ The ability to maximise resources and inspire, in a similar way to that required of mentoring. ◾ The ability to recognise strengths and challenge the individual being coached, in order to propel them forward. ◾ The skill to tackle problems head on and not dwell, or allow the coachee, to dwell on them. ◾ Ability to raises awareness and responsibility both with the individual being coached but also throughout an overall office and organisational environmental level. ◾ The skill to make it real, meaning finding right balance of interpersonal skills and the practical skills to convert discussions into actions. ◾ So, there are just a few crucial mentoring and coaching skills. As you’ll notice, there is quite an overlap in some cases and at PushFar we often see some of the most effective mentors being coaches too.

Coaching vs. Mentoring: Understanding the Difference Coaching and mentoring are often used interchangeably, but they serve distinct purposes. Both are powerful tools for growth, yet their approaches and outcomes differ significantly. Coaching Focused on achieving specific, measurable goals, coaching is short-term and performance-driven. Coaches guide individuals by asking powerful questions and providing actionable feedback. Purpose: Skill development or problem-solving. Approach: Structured and goal-oriented. Expertise: In coaching techniques, not necessarily in the field. Example: A Scrum Master improving facilitation skills. Mentoring Mentoring is about long-term personal and professional growth. Mentors share wisdom, offer guidance, and inspire through their own experiences. Purpose: Holistic development and career advancement. Approach: Advisory and relationship-driven. Expertise: Deep knowledge in the mentee’s domain. Example: An RTE mentoring a peer on leadership in SAFe. Key Differences Coaching addresses immediate challenges, while mentoring nurtures lasting development. Often, they complement each other beautifully. Mentoring and coaching are both forms of support and guidance, but they differ in their focus and approach. Mentoring tends to be more relationship-based and holistic, focusing on overall development, while coaching is more task-focused and geared towards achieving specific outcomes. Valsakumar P. One often asked question is: 'Do you mentor people as a coach?' I say no. Mentoring and Coaching are not the same thing. A mentor is an expert who provides wisdom and guidance based on his or her own experience. As a mentor, I share my own experiences, saying, "Hey, this worked for me. Why don't you try it?" It's about giving them a roadmap based on what I've been through, saving them from making the same mistakes I did. So then, what is Coaching? The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines Coaching as: Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. In Coaching, we are not telling people what to do. I always refer to Coaching as an 'empowering process'. Coaching is a client-driven process in which, as a coach, I ask reflective questions. These reflective questions enable the client to think about their situation more deeply, see things in a new light, and develop new perspectives. The right questions can expand the client's awareness beyond their current awareness. Take them from their current level of thinking to a higher level of thinking. It can help clients see their: ↳ Beliefs ↳ Feelings ↳ Thoughts ↳ Assumptions ↳ Thinking patterns ↳ Perceptions, in a new light. A coach's role can be seen as a "thinking partner" for a client. While both Coaching and mentoring can be valuable tools for personal and professional development, the key difference is in their focus and structure. Coaching is typically more goal-oriented and structured, while mentoring is more open-ended and focused on the transfer of knowledge and experience. #coaching #mentoring #coachcertification #coachskillstraining
