3 things…today 1️⃣THANK YOU Ron Johnson for inviting me to the WIBO event(was 🔥)! 2️⃣Be observant and have an open mind 3️⃣Valuable lessons aren’t always obvious 1️⃣ word…Catering I didn’t expect to learn the lesson of “think in terms of what is easiest for the end consumer”. When organizing the drinks, I thought the “best” way was to just organize and make it look nice, but there’s soooo much more to it. Everything is done for a reason. Here’s what I noticed 👀 🥤Putting ginger ale in front rather than in the back of the drinks made it wayyy easier for everyone to grab it rather than having to learn forward and grab it🥤 The result? People chose to drink more ginger ale(obviously other factors may have played a role in it as ginger ale seems more “healthier” than coke or [insert drink here]. Convenience and simplicity > Aesthetics💅

Gonna play with a metaphor: academia is a pie-eating contest where the prize is more pie.  Means you’d be better like what you’re doing because sticking around means more of the same. There’s rarely “once this is done, I don’t have to do this again.”  Be picky with your work choices because if you do them well, you’re just gonna get asked to do them more.  But let’s extend the metaphor. I don’t like most pies (fruit shouldn’t be warm). Metaphorically, I’ve learned early and often I can’t do things the way others do. Luckily I do like pizza pie. So in my job, I’ve made sure to turn it into the type of pie-eating contest I would enjoy (largely by trying to do the projects I’d do with tenure while still in asst prof mode but also by avoiding bad people). It’s not always perfect. I sometimes overindulge and get heartburn (burnout) and need some pepto (a nap and/or a vacation), but it’s a heck of a lot better than eating an apple pie I don’t want.  I really should be grading. 

Take a plunge into your senses. Note what you are seeing, feeling, hearing, tasting, and hearing. What is the present moment offering you to experience more fully?
