💡💡Great insights from our #MDaudit #2023Benchmarkingreport Case accuracy in professional and hospital billing present significant revenue opportunities.... With national staffing shortages impacting the field of healthcare; technology, automation, and analytics have become important catalysts for billing compliance departments as leaders look to increase productivity despite fewer staff members. Operational efficiency and coding accuracy become key drivers for financial effectiveness. Billing compliance teams are doubling down on auditing coders and tracking case accuracy rates for E&M and procedure services across professional and hospital billing. As you will see in subsequent pages, a single percentage increase in accuracy rates will mean cleaner claims during initial submission and in turn millions of dollars in reimbursement in a timely manner. 1. Case accuracy describes the accuracy of the total claims being audited 2. Code accuracy describes the accuracy of codes (E&M, CPT/HCPCS or DRG) in the claims being audited

💡Interesting recent stat from Beckers! A consistent (3% to 5%) margin of revenue opportunity is lost due to the complexity of documenting and coding for complex inpatient cases. This uncaptured revenue is significant to a hospital's bottom line, with a 5% loss in a mid-size hospital potentially equaling $22 million to $38 million in lost revenue annually‼️ MDaudit can help with our Hospital and Coder audit workflows. A recent PYMNTS Intelligence Report highlights that 84% of healthcare organizations face financial losses due to outdated accounts receivable (AR) processes, underscoring the need for modernization. Despite the potential benefits of digital solutions, the industry remains slow to adopt them. Over 80% of payment leaders recognize the importance of streamlining payment systems, but only 53% have adequately automated their processes, leading to costly errors and revenue losses. Outdated methods, such as paper-based billing, contribute to delayed collections, with 70% of providers still relying on paper communications. Innovative digital solutions, like payment installment plans from Weave and AI-driven billing platforms from companies like Waystar and MEDITECH, are emerging to address inefficiencies, potentially saving billions annually. However, barriers like cybersecurity risks and patient resistance impede progress. Healthcare organizations must focus on educating patients, adopting AI-driven models, and securing digital payment systems to improve efficiency and financial health while enhancing patient experiences. Our RCM team helps healthcare organizations modernize outdated AR processes by implementing automation, optimizing payment workflows, and conducting thorough root cause analysis. By integrating digital solutions and enhancing claims accuracy, we streamline revenue cycles, reduce financial losses, and improve both operational efficiency and the overall patient payment experience. When IT and operational leaders involve physicians in choosing technology–especially solutions used in clinical settings–they increase the chances that doctors will endorse and use the technology. Too often, software selections, workflows and updates are made in a vacuum and don’t take into account the complexities inherent in medicine. Giving physicians opportunities to share their voice in technology selection can help organizations ensure their purchases actually improve efficiency and enhance outcomes while minimizing workarounds and physician frustration. As healthcare organizations continue adopting the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standard, developers are increasingly tasked with integrating FHIR-based APIs into applications that need to access, share, or analyze healthcare data. While FHIR’s benefits are significant, particularly around data interoperability, the journey toward seamless FHIR integration introduces a unique set of challenges—especially regarding authentication and authorization. For developers, understanding these issues is critical to building secure, scalable, and compliant solutions in the healthcare space. FHIR at a Glance FHIR (pronounced “fire”) is a healthcare data standard developed by HL7. It aims to make it easier for healthcare systems to communicate by defining a common structure for data exchange. In essence, FHIR organizes healthcare information into standardized “resources,” like patients, appointments, and medications, enabling efficient data sharing and better interoperability. While FHIR brings standardization, the sensitive nature of healthcare data means that authentication and authorization processes must be robust to ensure privacy and compliance with regulations such as HIPAA. However, implementing secure access control for FHIR resources is complex, often creating obstacles for developers.
