It's hard to put into words how statistically significant my poor fantasy football performance has been this year, but I will try to do it anyway. For background, I am interested in fantasy football to the degree that I spend multiple hours of my life in the offseason doing research, scouting rookies, listening to podcasts, etc. When this year's draft came around I was excited to invest a 6th round draft pick in Arizona QB Kyler Murray. When Washington rookie QB Jayden Daniels was still on the board in the 10th round, I also confidently pulled the trigger on the pick. I thought he was the most talented player available, and I might have been right. Both of these players have been successful fantasy assets, just not in my lineup. I asked ChatGPT this morning, what is the probability of making a 50-50 decision wrong four consecutive times in a row? 6.25%. There was a 6.25% chance going into the season that I would start the wrong quarterback four consecutive times in a row. My record will likely be 1-3. Below are the optimal player start/sit decisions followed by who I actually started and what they produced. Optimal Decisions Week 1 - Jayden Daniels - 28.16 points Week 2 - Kyler Murray - 28.54 points Week 3 - Jayden Daniels - 28.06 points Week 4 - Jayden Daniels - 24.02 points Decisions I Made Week 1 - Kyler Murray - 14.18 points Week 2 - Jayden Daniels - 13.44 points Week 3 - Kyler Murray - 14.78 points Week 4 - Kyler Murray - 9.98 points I have had a combined point differential of 56.4 fantasy points sitting on my bench through the first four weeks of the season. You may be asking yourself: Derek, why are you sharing this on LinkedIn? Well, at this point, it's hilarious. But there have been many times in my marketing career where I truly believed the process behind the decisions I made was correct, but the results had something else to say. I think many people in my situation would be panicked and frustrated. When you have data to analyze, you realize you only have to react to things that are worth reacting to. There's something about that that is extremely liberating. In this case, I'm only one week away from having a breakout performance. Let's get back on track next week. Trust the process.

Whilst many non-profits are struggling to recruit Board members DSL has brought together a group of individuals that couldn't be more suited to the job if we wrote the script ourselves.. . They didn't just fall out of the sky though, major kudos to Elizabeth Young to supporting the way in which we approached this and to the work of Joanne Seagrave (she/her) and Mark Fraser in putting together such a great campaign. Without the work being led by Iain Burnside and the DSL Business Finance Ltd team though even these top tips wouldn't have worked. The company has a great reputation built over many years! 1) Be clear about your Mission and Vision: We went to the market with a clear vision of making sure that DSL Business Finance Ltd becomes known for being Scotland's Most Accessible Small Business Lender - This helps attract the right people and motivate them to apply. 2) Outline who your ideal Board members are and what skills and experience you want them to bring to the table. - If you don't know what you want and can't communicate it clearly then it is not going to happen. 3) Create clear job descriptions for Board members so that they understand what the commitments and expectations are and can decide if they have the space and the attention to give the role. - This helps clarify what's expected but also allows prospective Board members to make informed choices... Them communicate, communicate, communicate and hope you can find people as amazing as Claire Partridge CMktr Lisa Tennant and Jennifer Nicoll.... That might be a stretch, but the right Directors are out there just waiting for you!
