In our latest blog in the follow-up series from Active LDN 2024, London Sport’s Strategic Lead for Active Environments, Christopher Donkin, shared the key insights on our breakout session that focused on using data to reimagine public spaces as inclusive, vibrant hubs of activity🏆 Key takeaways from the session emphasised that data, while critical, is not a standalone solution - it must be interpreted thoughtfully and combined with creativity, collaboration, and adaptability. A multifaceted approach to data collection, bridging gaps through cross-sector partnerships, and staying responsive to evolving needs were highlighted as essential strategies. By aligning data insights with community engagement and innovative design, London can create healthier spaces that empower all residents to lead active lives. In short: Digital monitoring of the number of people in indoor or outdoor facilities, providing an overview of usage, no-shows, available times, and more 🤸♀️ ⛹♀️ This ensures a solid foundation for working on improvements and optimizations—a valuable tool for fostering dialogue between the municipality, politicians, and associations. Does it bring value? 🤔 Judge for yourself by reading this case from the Municipality of Odense in Denmark. Do sports help cities thrive and make communities come together? Find out on episode 1️⃣7️⃣ of Future Forward where Seyi and I explore Cities 🌆 and Sports ⚽ Here are 5 takeaways: 1️⃣ Sports have played a central role in cities throughout history, shaping urban landscapes and fostering social cohesion. 2️⃣ The economic impact of sports on cities is a topic of debate, with studies showing localized benefits but questions about broader metropolitan impact. 3️⃣ Inclusive and accessible sports facilities are crucial for creating vibrant and diverse communities. 4️⃣ Climate-resilient sports infrastructure is needed to adapt to changing climate conditions and contribute to the city's goals. 5️⃣ Sports facilities serve as important third spaces that bring communities together outside of politics and religion. And 1 Call to Action 🤔 Observe and evaluate the inclusivity and accessibility of sports facilities in your community to ensure they are welcoming to all not just a few. Did you know that we are continuing to drive our social value across the West Midlands? Here are 5 top tips for using events to catalyse inclusive growth 💥
CEO of the charity created for Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. We continue to deliver a community legacy via Events Volunteers, Youth Volunteers, and a sassy bull. We show businesses how to measure Social Value.
Can major events drive inclusive growth? 💯 In Birmingham we are making this the way we do events. Shah Begum shares our top five tips with the Inclusive Growth Network As Birmingham turns its mind to the upcoming 2026 European #Athletics Championships and 2027 #Invictus Games I notice a definite shift away from events organisers just "renting the city". When Shah talks about our learnings from the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, we had no idea that so much of what we put into practice then would be flourishing 2-3 years later. Like the Games Volunteers who collectively gave 24,000 hours to events in 2024. Like the thousands of young people who are now in jobs as a result of the Jobs and Skills Academy, or the dozens of small businesses which won a contract and introduced a new channel to market. With a healthy pipeline of events coming through, including the Kabaddi World Cup in 2025, we are in no doubt of the local benefit - events done right can drive inclusive growth. Come and talk to us about using our experienced Event Volunteers, how to introduce community festivalisation into your event, inclusive procurement, measuring social value and so much more! Hey #Glasgow Commonwealth Games Federation, we'd love to dish the tea behind our £300m in social value. Hit us up for a Zoom cuppa. https://lnkd.in/esnTctgW

This is for my arts and cultural organizations. 🎭 🎨 🖼 Have you considered private events and venue rentals as a source of earned revenue? Last month in Florida, DeSantis cut $32 million in funding for the arts (see article in comments). As all arts and culture organizations navigate financial sustainability, exploring alternative revenue streams becomes crucial. Offering your venue for private events not only generates income but also fosters community engagement and introduces new audiences to your mission. Let's discuss how integrating private events and venue rentals can bolster your organization's financial health and community impact. Together, we can expand opportunities for your organization to thrive. Does your not-for-profit rent their venues for revenue driving events? #sales #revenue #artsandculture
