This year’s #BlackHistoryMonth theme, Reclaiming Narratives, encourages us to challenge the stories that have historically overlooked Black achievements. It’s about shifting the focus to resilience, success, and empowerment in Black history and culture. Reclaiming the narrative goes beyond this month—it’s a call to action for educators, leaders, and professionals alike to honour, uplift, and educate by sharing the stories that truly matter. Today, we’re spotlighting Olive Morris—a dedicated advocate for equal rights who believed deeply in the transformative power of education to uplift marginalized communities. Her legacy continues to inspire educators to bring diverse perspectives and voices into the classroom. How are you reclaiming the narrative in your teaching or leadership? Let’s inspire each other with ideas and actions. #ReclaimTheNarrative #BlackHistoryMonth #OliveMorris #DiversityAndInclusion #EducationMatters

Great teaching goes beyond academic content—it’s about creating spaces where students feel safe, supported, and seen. By fostering trust and recognizing each student's unique experiences, educators can build classrooms where students thrive, not just academically but as their full selves. At Village of Wisdom, we believe that belonging is a catalyst for success. When students feel valued, they're empowered to learn, grow, and contribute in meaningful ways. We're working to ensure that every classroom is a place where Black Genius is nurtured and celebrated. How are you creating spaces of belonging in your work? Let's connect in the comments! #BlackGenius #BelongingMatters #EducationForLiberation

It's time! Colleagues, Connections, and Communities, grateful to my Heavenly Father to announce that my newest book is ready for your eyes, and for your minds to be transformed! Since we started SEE US in 2020, I have been asked questions such as, 'What does special needs mean?' 'How does disproportionality relate to the school-to-prison pipeline?' 'Why does SEE US focus on Black students?' 'What else can be done to improve outcomes for underserved students?' 'Do we really need special education?' My new baby (wink😊) will answer all those questions and more! 📘 Pour the Water: Transformative Solutions for Equity & Justice in Special Education, by Marcy Rachamim Jackson, MA Harnessing my educational leadership experiences of the last few decades, I share some touching testimonies, insightful interviews, and declarative data for every stakeholder to embrace and engage in the mission long overdue. Enjoy today's puzzler, from my book "Our Brave Foremothers: Celebrating 100 Black, Brown, Asian, and Indigenous Women Who Changed the Course of History?" In this existential moment, as we acclaim and uplift BIPOC women's power, let's get acquainted with some of the many who have come before. The recently launched Brave Sis Course course - Allies, Advocates, Co-Conspirators, Friends, Sisters: A Playbook for Leading, Learning, and Liberation (bit.ly/3Lplaybook) along with "Our Brave Foremothers" provide means to examine vectors of privilege, unlearn faulty histories and challenge inaccurate cultural norms. These are leadership as well as a personal growth resources, as we can all improve in how we interact, freely and appropriately, within the pluralistic situations, contexts, or tasks we are engaged in. Every morning on Instagram (@pegcitylovely), I share my thoughts during a daily 30-minute walk in my neighbourhood. It’s become a time for reflection, where I recap key moments from the previous day and discuss 2-3 meaningful topics. Yesterday, I highlighted an important reminder: It’s time to start planning for Black History Month now. Waiting until the last minute often results in missed opportunities to secure impactful speakers and guests. For organizations aiming to make Black History Month a meaningful part of their programming—not just in February, but throughout the year—now is the time to take action and start the conversations that matter. #BlackHistoryMonth #WinnipegEvents #CommunityEngagement #BlackExcellence #BlackLeadership #InclusiveWorkplaces

What caught your eye❓️ I commonly ask this question to those who visit my table, especially those who beeline it over to my table or stand before my table with wonder in their eyes ✨️💞 Their answers vary but are usually along the lines of, "Your books look beautiful" or my personal favorite, "I saw books with Black boys on them." According to @ourkidsread, only 18% of Black children are reading on grade level. Statistics by Children's Book Council indicate only 13% of books feature Black characters. So, I can't help but wonder: ☝🏽 Could there be a correlation between the two statistics? ✌🏽Could more representation in children's literature improve reading literacy among our Black children? 👉🏽 Could more representation in children's literature increase representation in workplaces? Let me know your thoughts in the comments 👇🏽 ___________________ Hi, I'm Tiffany Obeng and I'm a passionate workforce diversity advocate using children's literature as an early elementary intervention tool to influence the talent pipeline and positively impact future workforce diversity and inclusion.
