Daily Facts® : The Birth of a Million-Dollar Idea In 1930, a Hungarian inventor noticed something intriguing while observing children playing with marbles in a puddle: the marbles left a trail of water behind them. This simple observation sparked an idea: why not use a ball-shaped metal nib for writing? László József Bíró, along with his scientist brother György, embarked on a journey to develop this innovative pen model. After much experimentation, they perfected the design with viscous ink and a freely rotating ball tip, which prevented ink from drying out and ensured smooth ink flow. Their invention was showcased at the Budapest International Fair in 1931 and patented in 1938, marking a significant milestone in writing technology. The onset of World War II led the Bíró brothers to relocate to Argentina, where they faced initial challenges due to production costs. However, their breakthrough came when they secured a contract with the British Royal Air Force, catapulting the pen's popularity. In 1943, they licensed their invention to Eversharp Faber in the United States for $2 million, demonstrating its global appeal and commercial viability. Marcel Bich recognized the pen's potential and acquired the rights in 1950. Inspired by an advertising expert's advice, he simplified the business name to BICGroup by omitting the "h" from his surname. That same year, BIC introduced the iconic BIC Cristal, renowned for its flawless design and affordability. Today, over 20 million units of BIC Cristal pens are sold daily worldwide, with more than 100 billion produced since 1953, solidifying its status as the best-selling pen of all time. Conclusion: Ideas are born from everyday observations and curiosity, often by ordinary people like you and me. The story of the ballpoint pen exemplifies how a simple yet innovative idea can transform into a global phenomenon. If you have an idea, embrace it and explore its potential—trust yourself to make a difference. #facts #dailyfacts

Another update from my daugther on her journey of creating ethically made volleyball uniforms that are equipped with wearable tech that allows the player to share their info to coaches for recruiting... "Exciting news for Talullah Roxie! The next step in our development process is specing—measuring the sample to see if it turned out the way we expected with the exact measurements we wanted. This step is so important because it becomes the baseline for all future samples and production runs. Specing each sample as we move forward helps us track any pattern edits and make sure changes don’t impact other parts of the garment. It also allows us to compare the sample before and after washing to see if there’s any shrinkage. That way, we can decide if the fabric is suitable or if we need to choose something else. I’m proud to say that I learned how to spec in industry standards from my mom (which she says is one of the most important skills an apparel entrepreneur must learn), and I’m happy to report that this sample turned out perfect! After washing and drying it, there was minimal shrinkage—well within tolerance. The fabric is amazing, and now we can move on to the next step: making the next sample with a print engineered into it! Stay tuned for more updates!" -Talullah https://lnkd.in/eBQSdKKj #TalullahRoxie #SustainableFashion #VolleyballApparel #EthicallyMade #AthleticallyDriven #SpecingProcess #BehindTheScenes #AthleticWear #DesignProcess #FabricTesting #SustainableTextiles #EcoFriendlyFashion #ApparelEntrepreneur #SmallBusinessJourney
