blisce launches a $160 million fund to support climate tech founders #Blisce, the Paris-based #VC firm, has launched a new fund dedicated to climate tech with a target of $160 million (€150 million). This marks a significant step in Blisce’s commitment to investing in technology startups that aim to mitigate climate change. Blisce has announced the launch of a climate tech fund, aiming to raise $160 million to support startups with innovative solutions to reduce environmental impact. The fund will focus on industries such as materials, food, construction, mobility, and energy. Blisce was founded by Alexandre MARS, an entrepreneur-turned-philanthropist known for his work in creating and selling tech companies to major players like Publicis and BlackBerry. Alexandre Mars also founded the Epic Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to reducing childhood inequality and fighting climate change. Pierre-Edouard BERION and Lucie Basch were hired to lead the climate tech fund, Berion is a seasoned investor with experience at Eurazeo and Raise Ventures, while Basch will support the fund as a venture partner while continuing her role at Too Good To Go. The firm is still in the process of raising funds for its new climate tech initiative. The firm’s last fund successfully raised $240 million, indicating strong investor confidence. Blisce’s launch of a climate tech fund signifies a growing trend in venture capital towards sustainable and impactful investments. By focusing on industries with high environmental footprints, Blisce aims to drive meaningful change and support the development of technologies that can help combat climate change. The firm’s commitment to reinvesting a portion of its profits into the Epic Foundation further underscores its dedication to social and environmental impact. This article is outside our area of expertise, which is creating portfolios that align with client values, but since those values often include addressing the climate crisis, here’s our two cents. #VentureCapital really isn’t that adventurous, in the sense that it isn’t focused on long term ownership of a thriving business. The VC focus is on holding an investment for less than 10 years (and preferably not longer than 5 years) and taking home an 8-10x return. That worked well when VC money was flowing into fast-growing tech startups, but building companies that make a meaningful impact on climate change is likely to require more patience. https://lnkd.in/gMNtY-RN

Why I launched the CREtech Climate Venture Coalition… As my friends at Building Ventures state, we have a 40% crises in the built world…. *40% of all GHG emissions *40% of energy consumed *40% of raw materials used *40% landfill materials Given the above, it is expected to cost $83T to achieve Net Zero in the built environment according to McKinsey & Company and over $21T is at risk without resiliency and adaptation per the World Green Building Council (thank you AO Proptech for highlighting these stats). And yet only 5% of total venture dollars are being invested in built world climate tech! Any questions to ask now??? My goal therefore is to be a catalyst to drive more investment in decarbonizing the built environment. If you are a startup with a solution to help reduce carbon emissions in our sector, we want to hear from you! And more importantly, our venture capital coalition members want to hear from you! And that is why I launched our Climate Venture Coalition! CREtech

⭐ Siemens Energy Ventures and Carbon13 partner to grow the number of female climate tech founders ⭐ Climate entrepreneurship is still a relatively new sector of a startup ecosystem which is already known for under-investing in female leaders. Just 2% of funding from Venture Capital goes towards female-led startups. This is despite proof, time and time again, that the most successful startups are those with female founders. We see an opportunity to do better in climate tech. 👾 And that’s why we are setting the starting point for a strong European female climate tech founder community. With a strong innovation history, coupled with market access, networks, and deep technology know-how, we are proud to partner with Siemens Energy Ventures, whose unique blend of expertise can empower our growing community enormously. 💫 “We know that 35% of emissions reduction needs to come from technologies that are not commercialized yet. Working with Carbon13 and supporting their founders in building those emerging climate technologies is critical to build the next bench of companies driving the energy transition. We can only win this together by bringing diverse teams around one common purpose.” 🚀 This is how Kendra Rauschenberger, General Partner at Siemens Energy Ventures explains the partnership. We would like to thank Kendra Rauschenberger, Trent Greenland, Julia Reid and the entire Siemens Energy Ventures team for the trust they have placed in us and look forward to the support that the participants of our Venture Builder programme will greatly benefit from.
