When most people hear the word Autism, a particular image comes to mind. Often that is a young, white boy who is highly intelligent. The “burden” associated with that stereotype is that they are rude, socially awkward and lacking empathy. But from personal experience and working with so many amazing Autistic people, I know that: 1. This is only one way Autism presents. Many of us are the exact opposite of this 2. Experiencing empathy differently can be difficult when others don’t understand you, but when others take the time to listen, your unique experience of empathy can be valuable 3. There are so few resources out there challenging these stereotypes, stigmas, and myths. I wanted to change that. Nell Harris so brilliantly captured this framing of Autism in her stunning illustration too 😍 What are some other myths about Autism you’d like to bust? ______ #neurodiversity #autism #actuallyautistic #autisticauthor #autismchildrensbook #autismbooks #empathy

Interesting to me that when people think of ADHD it's often a young, white boy who can't sit still. Hmph 😤
