Hiring early team members as a first-time founder is tricky stuff. I started off by taking cues from articles & podcasts I had consumed — thought about titles, future roles, and where each hire would fit as we grew. But honestly it felt confusing & complicated. What usually works is asking myself a simple question : “What parts of my job do I need someone to take over right now? And what skills do they need for that?” Aligning these answers with the org’s immediate needs made things so much clearer. At early stages, it’s not about filling seats. You simply have to find people who’re ready to roll up their sleeves, share the weight, and make their own ‘seat’ in the team. Growth, roles, titles—they’ll follow as we scale.
