Truly they play a MAJOR role in the success and well-being of each other. Not only if it done correctly will it drive economic growth, but it can also enhance the quality of life for everyone involved. For example: Mike Morse - 🎒 Mike realized there was an overwhelming need for backpacks and supplies for the Detroit Public School students. He took on that mission and as of last year over 300,000 backpacks were donated to Michigan students. 🐶😻 Mike hosts Meet Your Best Friend event, where not only does he host the event two times a year and donates to the Michigan Humane, but he also pays for pets to be shown on local TV and will pay for those featured pets adoption fees! 👨⚖️ Mike has also stepped out of his comfort zone (Personal Injury) into criminal defense to help free Michael Anthony Griffin, a man who had spent over 13 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. David L. Thomas, MBA - 🏍 David and his team believe in boots on the ground with big and small events for their communities. They get in front of their audience with these events, and pull their members into building the community around these charities need/want. When businesses invest in their communities they improve the environment they operate in. In turn, these improvements lead to a better quality of life for their residents. It is about understanding the community's need, supporting the local causes, and contributing to a shared vision. This builds trust, loyalty, and long term relationships. Grateful for all of the support coming in after local news outlets highlighted the struggles we've had recently. I'm incredibly proud of our team this week - we didn't have to cancel a single delivery or visit to an older adult who was looking forward to our visit, as a result of this vandalism. --- This week was however, a good example of what can happen when we have to do more with less - funding, volunteers, staff, vehicles, etc. - the amount of time we're able to spend with each of the older adults we're delivering to, is reduced. For 53% of our clients, that staff member or volunteer at the door is the only in-person interaction they will have that day; these interactions TRULY matter. Would you like to be the best part of someone's day? Actually, how about the best part of 10-20 people's day, once a week or month? To make sure that these visits are as meaningful as possible, we will continue to need additional, regular volunteers; we've made significant investments to ensure that a volunteer shift can be completed in about 1.5 hours. Proof that a non profit can in fact sell something and use proceeds to fund great work in the community. This type of community action inspires me When I first was introduced to youth empowerment in 2014, I began throwing around ideas to the community about thrift stores and generating revenue for services not based on donations and grants alone. As you may know, I am passionate about selling tie dyes shirts. Shirts that profits could go to sustaining great programs like this one day. So glad to see in action the power of business and giving. I think that we have potential when we follow the leaders of this organization to take the steps to say, yes, we are a non profit and we will generate revenue that will go back to the community in need through our programs. #communtiy #giving #nonporfit #leadership #youthempowerment
