🚨 As the push for renewable energy surges, offshore wind farms are stepping up as key players in the race for sustainable power. But there's a critical issue looming—wind turbine wakes—and it's more problematic than many realize. These wakes, areas of reduced wind flow downstream of turbines, can lead to power deficits of up to 30% in some cases. Experts are raising alarms that the current models for predicting these effects are inadequate, potentially threatening the future of offshore wind projects. In our latest blog, we dive into the findings of a recent study by NREL and the University of Colorado and explore innovative solutions, like WindESCo’s Swarm™ technology, designed to tackle this issue head-on. 💡 Learn how Swarm™ is revolutionizing offshore wind power with cutting-edge turbine control strategies that optimize energy production and reduce wake losses. 👉 Read the full blog to understand why addressing wind turbine wakes could be the key to ensuring the future success of offshore wind: https://hubs.la/Q02YV7DP0 #OffshoreWind #RenewableEnergy #WindTurbines #SustainablePower #WindESCo #EnergyInnovation #CleanEnergy

🗣️ Small wind energy devices are not economical. It's what we, at Katrick Technologies are challenging. 💪 In fact, the issue is around understanding how winds at ground level behave and utilising this to design an effective wind energy device. Initial results from our wind mapping studies across Scotland have delivered fascinating insights into why conventional rotary wind devices fail to deliver economical returns for customers wanting to go green 🍃 https://buff.ly/46NrZd6 #windenergy #urbanwind #carbonfree #netzero

Almost all island communities depend on fossil fuel imports from the mainland territory. These fuel imports are the lifeline of the island. However, transportation costs make these imports expensive, and delays can put the island at risk of blackouts. To reduce reliance on costly energy imports and decrease the carbon footprint, decentralized power generation and microgrids are essential. Tidal kite is an emerging decentralized power generation technology that harnesses underwater tidal and ocean currents to provide power at a relatively high-capacity factor of up to 46%. In February 2024, Minesto, a Swedish technology pioneer connected the world's first commercial tidal kite rated at 1.2 MW to the grid in Faroe Island. The company has plans to build four arrays in the Faroe Islands, totaling 120 MW, which would supply 40% of the island’s power demand. Looking to your comments on how tidal kites compare to more established offshore wind turbine technology as a renewable energy source for islands? #Minesto #SeaQurrent #ENI #TechnipFMC #Tidalkites #tidalenergy #cleanenergy #distributedenergy #renewables #emergingtechnology #futurebridge

💡A recent study reveals intriguing insights into the stability of worldwide wind power production over the past 15 years. With annual variations consistently within a ±3% range, based on the irec index covering 80% of onshore wind farms globally, this research sheds light on crucial wind resource trends. While Europe experiences slightly wider annual variations within a ±7% range, the overall global trend remains impressively stable. CEO Habib Leseney underscores the significance of this discovery, noting a consistent stability in cumulated production without any observed downward trends over the years. Integrated with ERA5 data, the irec index empowers asset managers and wind farm owners to effectively monitor production variations, ensuring optimal portfolio performance over time. Marion Jude, Technical Lead, emphasizes the index's role in providing a comprehensive overview of portfolio performance. This study reaffirms wind power's resilience and reliability as a sustainable energy solution, offering valuable insights for optimizing wind energy systems worldwide. 🌬🍃💡 #WindEnergy #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #ClimateAction #EnItSpa #Renewables #Wind #WindPower

New York state has announced plans to cement electricity agreements with two new offshore wind farms being developed in the Atlantic Ocean, both near Long Island. Combined, the offshore developments will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 3 million metric tons annually — the equivalent annual emissions of over 740,000 cars. New York’s goal is to develop 9,000 megawatts of offshore wind energy by 2035. We have a core belief that accelerating renewable power deployment across all geographies is a prerequisite for decarbonization success and applaud this commitment to building a sustainable future. "... on average between 33% and 50% of new [offshore wind] capacity in Europe has been financed through this mechanism over the past 15 years, in several countries bordering the North Sea. Stabilising the revenue profile of renewable power projects through the use of CfDs...is also important as these projects have a different risk profile than fossil-fuelled power projects, with relatively high upfront costs that can leave the project exposed during its operational cycle if wholesale power prices are lower than expected." https://lnkd.in/eXvn-xWU #ContractsForDifference #CfDs #renewableenergy #hydrogen #energytransition
