Is the tech at fault or is it us? Are we lonely because of the machines or despite them? In a world gripped by a growing loneliness epidemic, I can't help but wonder whether the very technology, tools, and business ideas that captivate us are also driving us apart? Does our fascination with them intensify our craving for authentic human connection, or do we sink away into an AI world where the real and the virtual are one and the same? Wherever you sit with this answer, I believe that we have SO much more to do to pull our people - literally our human needs - into the platforms elevating our world. After all we are the ones that build them, use them, share them so why is it that the facets of evolutionary behaviour aren't being built into them? Technology, when designed with intention, has the power to change how we feel, work, and live - and yes, how we empathise. This is why I am always so open and eager to speak about empathy at scale to the innovators building the future. Can AI grow our empathy? Absolutely. (And should it? YES!) Should we be coding with connection at heart? Without a doubt. Hey, Tech Enthusiasts! I'm back from The African Digital Innovation Summit, and let me tell you – it was an absolute blast! 🚀 Now that I've had a chance to digest all the mind-blowing sessions, insightful discussions, and memorable moments, I wanted to share some of my reflections with you all. First and foremost, attending the summit reaffirmed my belief in the limitless potential of technology to shape the future. From cutting-edge advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning to revolutionary developments in cybersecurity and sustainability, the sheer breadth and depth of innovation on display were awe-inspiring. But beyond the shiny gadgets and buzzworthy trends, what truly stood out to me was the sense of community and collaboration that permeated every aspect of the event. Whether I was chatting with fellow attendees during networking breaks, engaging in thought-provoking conversations at panel discussions, or sharing laughs over coffee, it was clear that we were all united by a shared passion for harnessing technology for positive change. One of the highlights for me was the keynote speeches delivered by industry luminaries. Hearing firsthand accounts of their journeys, challenges, and triumphs was incredibly inspiring and left me feeling energized and motivated to push the boundaries of what's possible in my own work. Of course, no summit experience would be complete without a healthy dose of learning and personal growth. I walked away from each session with fresh perspectives, new insights, and practical takeaways that I can apply to my own projects and endeavors. But perhaps the most valuable aspect of the summit was the connections I made along the way. From reconnecting with old friends to forging new partnerships and collaborations, the relationships I formed are invaluable assets that I'll cherish long after the event has ended. In short, The African Digital Innovation Summit was an unforgettable experience that exceeded all my expectations. I'm grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of it, and I'm already counting down the days until next year's event! My takeaways of the MWC24 In keywords: Green, inclusion, AI, GenAI, eSim, Cloud, 5G, or eHealth Behind the curtains what I enjoyed this year is the ambiance “business as usual”: a giant networking event when some put the show on (and they do it really well!) while others stay discrete. Overall you can enjoy impressive talent from all over the world reunited here. AI: everyone talk about AI as a buzzword but there are companies working in this area for years, some just jump on the occasion and the trend. But who would blame them? (Samsung) GenAI: some actually jump in the pool and dare talk about GenAI and that’s where the conversation really becomes interesting. The darkest points for me: Green and inclusion, many business don’t go deep and just surf on trends: Green is used as a buzzword: apparently everyone is sustainable or at least care about it. I just see people using the word and numbers to show “how green they are”. 5 women on stage talking about the fact that in the public, in the event.. “there are not enough women”. I’m ashamed of being one when I see things like that. If it were for me you wouldn’t get a stage to have such useless speech. If you have a time and attention from others: own it, deserve it, and give them value. On international relationships: I saw Asians with Asians, Europeans with Europeans… and not many African companies represented and only a certain part of America. The event is obviously not meant to represent political relationships but it underlines an existing distance between different parts of the world. Looking at it business-wise we are loosing big opportunities there. Apart from that, I love this event, for the atmosphere, I enjoy a lot seeing pitches: I learn a lot about how communicating clearly your business is an art. And I can only admire all the entrepreneurs getting on stage and pitching their business (Alex Rius Laorden), you have all my respect. Cloud, eSIM, 5G, eHealth: The main reason why it’s a great event for me: it allows me a perspective on the trends in technology. As a teacher (like any other professional) I constantly update myself: through social media, never ending learning, industry watch… and this event is a nice part of my professional journey. Last but not least: Humans Even when the main topic is technology, in the end Humans are at the heart of everything: From big suffering in many companies not getting enough talents to develop their products (entreprelearners, TalentYou.AI) to building and designing for their customers. And the main reason why the MWC exist: business deals are made by humans. So, like last year, for me the best talks happen at the 4YFN at the AWS startup stand, I always get inspiration from there. They are a great example of how to put humans at the center of the company. You might like or not the way it’s made… it’s the Amazon way. With observations come decisions, but that will be the topic of a future post ;)

Wonder Women Tech creates space for everyone to grow into the leaders we all know we can be. Too often when I was still in the tech workplace I was told my leadership style wasn't quite right. 🦓 I was too abrasive - despite being by far the most diplomatic person on the team because I had to be. 🦓 I was not technical enough even when I knew more of the bits and bytes of how the tech worked than others on the team. 🦓 I was told I wasn't seen a manager or leader while also being called bossy. 🦓 One manager told me everyone on the team and every peer he talked to loved working with me but he couldn't figure out why. Despite their praise of my skills, connections, and work he wouldn't give me a "meets expectations" because he couldn't see me. Thankfully 2 of his peer managers stepped up and corrected the situation. Wonder Women Tech helps disrupt that pervasive bias. It's a bias that keeps companies from innovating because they pass over so many talented people. They don't see us. We need to be seen as we are. We need to be recognized and rewarded for our work. Not just because we deserve it - and we DO - but because it's good for businesses.
