🚀 Breaking News from Axios: President-elect Trump is considering appointing an AI and Crypto czar in the White House to coordinate federal efforts across various agencies on emerging technologies. 👥 This initiative is a significant step toward enhancing the effectiveness and coherence of U.S. policies on AI and cryptocurrency. By coordinating the efforts of different federal agencies, the White House can ensure a unified and strategic approach to these rapidly evolving technologies. This move underscores the administration's commitment to positioning the United States as a global leader in these critical areas, promoting innovation, and securing the economic and strategic advantages that accompany technological leadership. See article from Axios below: #AI #Crypto #TechnologyPolicy #Innovation #WhiteHouse #TechLeadership #DigitalCurrency #FederalPolicy #USGovernment🚀 President-elect Trump is considering naming an AI czar in the White House to coordinate federal policy and governmental use of the emerging technology, Trump transition sources tell me. Why it matters: Elon Musk won't be the AI czar, but is expected to be intimately involved in shaping the future of the debate and use cases, the sources said. Behind the scenes: We're told the role is likely but not certain. Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy — who are leading Trump's new outside-government group, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) — will have significant input into who gets the role. Musk — who owns a leading AI company, xAI — has feuded publicly with rival CEOs, including OpenAI's Sam Altman and Google's Sundar Pichai. Rivals worry Musk could leverage his Trump relationship to favor his companies. 🖼️ The big picture: Trump, partly in response to the enlarged coalition that fueled his victory, plans to be super-attentive to emerging technologies. Trump's transition has vetted cryptocurrency executives for a potential role as the first-ever White House crypto czar, Bloomberg News reported last week. The AI and crypto roles could be combined under a single emerging-tech czar. Zoom in: The AI czar will be charged with focusing both public and private resources to keep America in the AI forefront. The federal government has a tremendous need for AI technology. The new czar would likely work with agency chief AI officers, which were established in President Biden's AI executive order, and could survive Trump. The person also would work with DOGE to use AI to root out waste, fraud and abuse, including entitlement fraud. The office would spur the massive private investment needed to expand the energy supply to keep the U.S. on the cutting edge. The backstory: The idea has been kicking around Trumpworld for several months, as the transition considered structural changes at the White House to prioritize staffing for Trump's priorities.

From #Free-Software to #Fee-Software: how a simple "R" is reshaping the evolution of the software industry. How many of you support this trend or "new normality" of subscription-based software and services? 🤔 Is the industry's approach really the right one? 🙄 From my perspective... let's discuss. 🥸 I always have a critical approach to fully embracing solutions with a Kantian either-or logic: in reality, contexts, scenarios, and timings vary widely. Thinking that a monopolistic stance, as it is for some software or so-called "standards," can claim the right to impose business models where customer loyalty leads to genuine technical, technological, and commercial lock-in is a serious issue that governments and institutions must address. 💡 A good place where to start from your consideration alongside my short introduction, is the #TheRegister article "How tech went from free love to pay-per-day FOSS, AI, blockchain, and the cycle of empty nonsense": https://lnkd.in/dKTB4Ecz At #RedHat Devconf.cz (https://lnkd.in/dp6pwiMz), alongside technical talks on #Linux, a significant portion was dedicated to #AI and #blockchain projects: revolutionary changes, from alleviating financial regulations to diminishing government oversight, envisioning a lucrative web3 future. These technologies were marketed as tools to usher in a new era of efficiency and autonomy but... ... despite the #opensource nature of many tools used in AI and blockchain, the applications often diverge from these ideals. Companies developing large language models frequently do not own the data driving these systems. The AI hype, particularly around "Artificial General Intelligence" (AGI), highlights a shift in focus from practical, functioning AI to speculative, long-term goals that hide present limitations. 📈 Historically, software was sold as a one-time purchase. However, the need for continuous revenue streams has driven companies towards subscription models. These models ensure a steady income but often at the cost of consumer autonomy, increased long-term expenses and: ✔️ Companies and end Users may face restrictions and lack control over their software and data, as they depend on the subscription service to maintain access; ✔️ Subscription models can lead to a lock-in scenario, where users find it difficult to switch to alternative solutions without losing access to their data or facing significant migration challenges; ✔️ Potentially, forced to upgrade to maintain compatibility with others, even if the upgrades offer no significant benefits; ✔️ Potentially, the focus on subscription revenue can drive companies to prioritize incremental updates and monetizable features over substantial, innovative improvements; ✔️ Prices potentially can change at every renewal and if you are in lockin scenario... #TechEvolution #SoftwareIndustry #OpenSource #Subscription #AI #Blockchain #FOSS #Innovation #DigitalTransformation
