There's so much work to do here, and we need to do it at pace. We are more effective together. Thanks to Jackie and The Carents Room and to Dawn Neesom and GB News for shining a light on the real and huge struggles of those familial carers. One in seven employees also have caring responsibilities. 59% of them are women. We have to be smarter in the ways we help them to stay in work and well whilst caring. Myfolks offers some respite and The Carents Room offers sign posting and support. If you have ageing parents, please give some thought to how you will support them, ahead of time. That will enable better decision making than will be available when you're right in the middle of it - think about the legals, the financials, the practical options, how to promote good health for as long as possible etc. We also have to work on prevention to limit the time our elderly family members spend in ill health. For example, social isolation is a killer. It leads to a 32% increased risk of cardiovascular disease and other illnesses. We must get ahead of it. Myfolks puts the kettle on and builds meaningful connection with our elderly clients.
