Venture capital firms were once dominated by former founders and financiers. Today, it's the community builders — people creating founder networks, running accelerators and the super-connected — who are increasingly likely to discover the next unicorn or cut a check. Learn more about this new crop of dealmakers, who they invest in and why partners collaborate with them, from VC-turned-VC builder Myrto Lalacos. This trend could potentially democratize access to capital, making it more about the merit of the idea and the strength of the team rather than the traditional gatekept pathways. Community builders, by virtue of their roles, have a broader and possibly more grassroots-level view of the startup landscape. They are more likely to encounter diverse founders and ideas that might have been overlooked by the traditional VC model focused on pedigree and network. Moreover, their emphasis on building and nurturing ecosystems naturally lends itself to fostering long-term relationships. This can lead to a more supportive and engaged investment style, which not only benefits the startups but also aligns with the growing trend towards responsible and sustainable investment. However, balancing the demands of deal-making with the ethos of community building will be key to their sustained impact on the industry. In a way, if traditional VCs were the exclusive clubs where deals were made in wood-paneled rooms, today's community builders are turning the industry into a vibrant marketplace, buzzing with ideas from every corner. It's an exciting time to watch how this unfolds and the innovative startups that will emerge from this. LinkedIn News

I love the idea of community builders spotting the next big thing. Feels like a more collaborative approach to VC, right? LinkedIn News
