Why is this not happening more often? There appear to be so many benefits for stakeholders. Many people are happy to wear a smartwatch, happy to spend no more time in hospital than is needed. #Wearables have a hard standing in medicine. Most are pervasive in the broader population but lack medical rigor to be used in routine care. But as the #healthtech evolves, more uptake in #healthcare is to be expected. One example is the Hospital La Fe de Valencia who are using Masimo Smartwatches in prehabilitation and post-operative care in clinical trials at the moment. The output of the devices are directly linked to medical records and allow remote care for the patients. The implementation took around 8 months and found several challenges on regulation and data privacy. "But the payoff is worth it. Aside from satisfied patients who can recover at home faster, smartwatches provide an extensive collection of clinical data. Additionally, it contributes to the development of predictive algorithms enabling early interventions. Tailored treatments and health plans are feasible with smartwatches. One could say smartwatches are saving lives."
