As consultants, we bring valuable insights and best practices to the table, but we are not postured to truly understand what’s best for a client organization. Client's talented leaders, managers, and staff are the ones embedded in the daily realities and nuances that shape decision-making. Ultimately, they are the ones who will live with the outcomes—whether those involve change or maintaining the status quo. Ideally, this understanding is clarified during contracting. Often though, it is a continuous process of reminding our clients they're really in charge, consultants are serving as helpful guides.
