The time to invest in the 5G networks in Philippines is now! This is the discussion we had today on the opening day of our Imagine Live event in Manila. 5G will provide the Philippines with a competitive edge when it comes to attracting foreign investments, accelerating the digital transformation of the country and enabling inclusive economic growth. We know this because we see 5G frontrunner markets, like India and Malaysia, already reaping the benefits of fast deployment of 5G. In both these countries , we see that the Government has played a critical role in fostering rapid infrastructure build out and use. The Philippines government has a good digital nation strategy, which can further be enhanced by leveraging 5G as critical infrastructure. 5G will also open up new opportunities for operators in the Philippines, both in the established mobile broadband business and through the exploration of new value pools, such as Fixed-Wireless Access, private networks and programmable networks. With growing demand for mobile connectivity and data services in the Philippines, more affordable 5G smartphones becoming available in the market and a maturing 5G eco system, investment in 5G will transform the way Filipino’s live, work and play. Ericsson has been part of the telecommunications journey of the Philippines for more than 35 years, and, as a global ICT leader, we are committed to partnering with our customers, the Government, and industry to unleash the power of 5G for the benefit of the country. it is one thing having access to tools and services and another having the necessary know-how to harness this. This is what GTEP seeks to ensure taking participants through and getting feedback from the same of all the products and services available via Giga such as 1. the geo-mapping of schools 2. the real-time Internet connectivity monitoring application 3. the infrastructure analysis service by International Telecommunication Union that helps countries assess the connectivity infrastructure available and/or required to effectively connect each school in a country and at what cost. This is all geared at empowering Governments around the world to design, plan, negotiate funding and implement connectivity for schools. Notably, communities around the schools and along the route are poised to benefit by also getting connected as well as from the vast socio-economic development opportunities to such communities due to the schools being connected.
Today, we spoke with Alejandro Jair Herrera Mojica, National Deputy Director of Telecommunications at Autoridad Nacional de los Servicios Públicos of Panama. He shared his enthusiasm for joining Giga’s Government Technology Exchange Programme (#GTEP) and his hopes for the week ahead. The second edition of #GTEP is taking place in Barcelona this week. We’re excited to have representatives from Brazil, Honduras, Panama, the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, and our special guest, Uruguay. Stay tuned for more updates! #GovtTechExchange #Panama #ConnectEverySchool
