I Got Promoted… But It Was the Wrong Career Move Have you ever been promoted… and realized it wasn’t what you actually wanted? That happened to me when I was promoted to Staff Engineer. At first, I was excited—it felt like recognition for my hard work. But deep down, I knew it wasn’t the right path for me. I wanted to lead teams, not just solve technical problems. But no one asked me what I wanted—and honestly, I hadn’t asked myself either. Looking back, I learned two powerful lessons about career growth: ✅ Be Intentional: Know what you want—don’t let others decide for you. ✅ Be Proactive: Speak up about your goals and take action toward them. If you’ve ever felt stuck or unsure about your next career step, you’re not alone. You can take charge of your career, starting with getting clear on what you want. 🎥 Watch the full video on YouTube where I share my story and actionable career planning tips: 👉 https://lnkd.in/dZm-5DDz

10 Years in the Same Company, Same Position—Good or Bad? I came across a candidate the other day who had been in the same position for a really long time. It got me thinking: Is that a good thing—loyalty, experience, and stability? Or are we looking at a lack of career progression, comfort zones, and limited exposure? I believe the answer is not black or white, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach. If you’ve been growing, learning, and taking on new challenges—even within the same role—make sure to highlight that. A decade of experience in one company can be an asset if you can show how it’s prepared you for the next chapter. However, for some employers, staying in the same position for 10 years without visible career progression can raise concerns. It might signal a lack of ambition, limited exposure to new environments, or an inability to adapt to changing industry trends. Thoughts?

✨ Exciting Update ✨ Today I signed an offer letter with an amazing company. This marks the beginning of a new chapter in my career, and I couldn't be more thrilled to share what's next with y'all. But first, let's reflect on the journey that brought me here. Since starting full-time work at age 17, I've always moved from one opportunity to the next with ease and intention — and without a break. My career has been on a constant upward trajectory until November 2023, when I faced major employment uncertainty for the first time. My dream job ended when my company had to lay me off. What followed was a familiar story to the LinkedIn community: countless applications, growing uncertainty, numerous interviews and project presentations, and many instances of being “second choice” out of a pool of thousands of applicants. It was tough, but I stayed afloat thanks to temporary jobs and a strong network of mentors. They taught me an important lesson: never settle for less than what truly drives you. If it's not a "hell yes," it's a no. Once I started focusing on roles that would ignite my passions where I could truly see myself thriving, the opportunities started to roll in and my confidence started to return. Remember, being laid off isn’t a reflection of your worth. It's a reflection of the times. And what a time to be alive. I promise you this — you are just as capable as ever and you have EXACTLY what one company needs. Your time is soon. Pursue the jobs that ignite your passion. Don't give up—you've got this. I can't wait to share details about my new role in a few days. But first, some bubbly. 🥂 It’s been a long trail, but I’m happy to say the view from the summit is beautiful. ⛰
