In today's episode of "State of Current Affairs," hosts Lillian Cauldwell and Viki Esther Chang explored the topic of "Food Security." They discussed how many countries rely on others to supplement their food resources. When a country stops exporting a staple, the receiving country risks facing starvation or a surge in black market economics. For instance, Singapore, as an island nation, relies on various countries to import rice to ensure its national diet isn't compromised if one country can't export to them. Ms. Cauldwell highlighted the paradox of the US's wealth, where excess food is destroyed or left to rot in fields while farmers are paid by the government, resulting in greed, money, and power. They also discussed innovative methods of food production, such as growing food from air molecules and chemicals, water-based cultivation, and creating meat from molecules, as maintaining cattle has become too costly on limited land. https://lnkd.in/gMZ-idMv

Irrational belief in elixirs in China thrives Seeing the same content reported on a cable station in Taipei the morning of Mar. 25, 2024 drove me to Google the attached reports. This type of manic belief in the elixir made in China with donkey hide reeks of the same irrationality surrounding eating shark fin and other exotic animal parts in China to achieve miraculous effect. Fortunately the African Union has approved a 15-year ban on the trade of donkey skins. #IrrationalBeliefInElixirsInChinaThrives https://lnkd.in/gXhX-QvX https://lnkd.in/g6sdPGcY

“food insecurity is a moral failing that stings us all….. It has no borders,………our best strategy is to act together with urgency and solidarity”.President Michael D. Higgins. The address by The President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, at the #2024KofiAnnanlecture is profound! https://lnkd.in/d8WkpUVZ While his lecture focuses on food security and global hunger and argues for the adoption of “universal food security,” as defined by Professor Glenn Denning, President Higgins provides various options that transcend food security and reflect the need to review current global development and multilateralism practices. “Is it time to redefine what is meant by development……..in terms of sufficiency, as a concept sensitive to contemporary conditions ……….inclusive of best aspirations for life..” As a Global Health and policy practitioner, his views and reflections on including local communities in policy-making and implementation and the need to re-engineer multilateralism resonate with the ongoing discourse within Global health initiatives. Nutrition and health are interrelated, and this discourse illuminates the interdependence of the #SDG's. #SDG #foodsecurity #globalhealth #kofiananlectures #globaldevelopment #multilateralism #AFDB

Interesting article. Certainly worth reading. I do not want any of us to become Eloi and I sure as heck do not want my grandchildren growing up as Eloi!

Real entrepreneurs are needed - those who can generate revenue from little or no initial investment. The EU's approach to supporting startups needs a complete overhaul as a first step. A fresh perspective is crucial, without a doubt. 🙂
Deceleration and degrowth is officially done. Europe is finally waking up. Time to deregulate and accelerate. 📈

We talk about #foodsecurity and #nutrition when there are droughts and floods, not when agricultural markets appear to be stable and working. But we know we are way off track on #SDG2 and #agenda2030. Yes - apart from trade war & new US administration jitters in Europe - it was fun, Natalie McNelis. And Happy Birthday to the news programme with the best-ever intro music. Would debate that publicly... Your comment about having fun is right on the money - and even more fun that we got in just before Méabh Mc Mahon & her team marked Euronews' Brussels, My Love?'s two-year anniversary yesterday. This light-hearted compact digest of Europe's top news, also featuring EGIC - Euro-Gulf Information Centre's Matthew Robinson this week, does a great job of getting guest chemistry right so that the show flows naturally around major events. What viewers may not notice: You go in for one take and that's it. Will not do 10 learnings here but just one: Chemistry matters (and a good anchor can shape it) Just watch the beginning and compare to the chemistry by the end as we warm up. Our anchor piped up in between segments at the top to remind us of the fun weekend format and to ... have fun since we looked spooked in the first segment (If I ever media prep you or your company, please put this post back in my face). The fun on set poured out on to the street in front of the studio long after the lights went down as staff left to lunch exchanging politely confused glances over the guests still chatting despite no anchor or cameras. We agreed upon the need to come back given the heavy, fast-moving news flow these days ... and we're not even into the next Commission or new US administration. So what should we focus on more next time - what did we miss in that lightning round seeking to make sense of transatlantic affairs?? Be LinkedIn-style brutal with us. I had so much fun appearing on @Brussels, My Love?, Euronews' excellent weekly chat show to discuss the Trump effect, hosted by the amazing Méabh McMahon, flanked by Gregg Svingen and Matthew Robinson. https://lnkd.in/eH9uFbab
